Dr. Mangan with Mangan Dental Group. I went to have a tooth pulled and they tried to upsell me into some extra stuff (ie,.regular dental care), but otherwise it was a great experience. I told them I was afraid and they said they can do anything from no meds at all up through conscious sedation. I opted for nitrous and they let me chill on it for about 10 minutes before the dentist worked on me. I was so relaxed that when he said, "ok" I was like, "ok, we're starting?" He informed me that it was over and my tooth was out. They sent me home with scripts for appropriate meda and called to check in on me a few hours later.

I recommend Dr Ned Alley on Breckenridge. When I moved to Little Rock I had a terrible fear of dentists. I had to take Xanax just to get a cleaning. I had lots of work done as a kid and young adult and it really messed me up. I had to have a lot of the work redone and ultimately I have about 1/4 of my mouth as dental implants now. Dr Alley (and my surgeon Dr Scott Schoen) did all the work and the experience was very good. I'm not scared at all now and I feel basically "normal" about going to the dentist. It isn't anything specific they did to address my fears, just good professional work and fixed the problems I had (bridge work coming off constantly, bite problems, etc)

I had the same thing happen to me years ago, I didn't go to the dentist for about 8 years because of a bad experience. Then I had a tooth break, so I had to go. A friend suggested Dr. Richardson Dr. Jerry C. Richardson, DDS Dentist · 2.4 mi Address: 209 S State St, Little Rock, AR 72201 Phone:(501) 375-0265 I absolutely LOVE him. It's not a fancy place, but he shoots you straight. He tells you all the options. He's gentle. I have been going to him for 10 years now. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Thanks everybody for your responses. There are definitely a lot but this at least narrows it down to some that are convenient to where I live.

Ted Jolley on Markham is great. I had a very very similar experience to yours and I flat out told him that other dentists had been very condescending to me. He is absolutely great and I'll go back

Hatley Family Dentistry on Rodney Parham. Been going there since I moved to Little Rock 16 years ago. They're a husband and wife team and the whole staff is great.

Shuffield on Macon drive (near the post office off Rodney Parham). The dental hygienists are some of the most laid back and friendly professionals and I've never had a painful experience in the four years I've gone there.
Unrelated to your fear, but to illustrate that this staff goes above and beyond: I was stressed about missing an appointment because I couldn't find childcare for my baby--I teach high school and finding a sub is such a hassle, so missing a cleaning during a break usually means I would have to wait up to six months for another shot. They told me to bring him in, they played with him while I got my teeth cleaned, and he didn't cry for the whole hour. They gave him a little stuffed bear in a gift bag and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Great people, nice place, and they have my business as long as I live here.
Wherever you end up, I hope you have a much better experience than the last!

Looks like we have a lot of great dentists in the area. I'd recommend the Heights Dental Clinic. I forget the name of the new dentist (Dr. Smith died suddenly a few months ago) but I love the staff and I had a filling with the new guy and he was excellent. Very nice, very gentle, talked through everything and adjusted the speed for my comfort. One of the best experiences in the chair I've had. Highly recommend!
