Check out DARE at http://daretorescue.org/ and FUR at https://www.floridaurgentrescue.com/. Their available adoptees is always changing so you never know what they will have. Both will also do a foster to adopt where you get basically a free in home trial of your new pet. Their goal is to see you and your pet well matched. A breeders goal is to sell animals. [There is also an event in Riverside today](https://www.facebook.com/events/178856732761894/) with some other local rescues. You can talk to some of the rescue and let them know what you are looking for. They can help you network and find your perfect friend.

Try petfinder.com, you can enter specifics of what you are looking for and it will sort through shelters and rescues in the area.

Keep checking the shelters. I probably made 12-16 visits before I landed on the one I got a few months ago, and I just happened to land one I liked on a no-fee weekend.

Definitely start following some of the rescues mentioned on social media if you use it. Small breed puppies are a hot commodity and you really have to jump on it when one is available.
If you do decide to go the breeder route, know that good breeders don't have "stock" just sitting around either - good breeders build up a waiting list before breeding, in most cases, so you'll still be waiting if you go that route. Good breeders can be found through the national breed club, not on Craigslist or Swipswap and definitely not a pet store. Be wary of any breeder breeding more than one or two breeds.
I work in the pet field and can tell you all the pet stores will charge you a crapload for a puppy that often isn't well bred and certainly didn't have the care and socialization it should before getting to the buyer. Happy to talk more if you want but this comment is getting long.

I adopted my rescue dog from Their Lives Our Voices. They are based in Palatka but frequent St. Augustine. They get a lot of small breeds.

Are you looking for a specific breed? Or just any pup?

Fawn's Small Dog Rescue sometimes has puppies. [Here](https://www.facebook.com/fawnssmalldogrescue/) If you don't mind driving, [Gainesville Pet Rescue](https://www.facebook.com/gvillepetrescue/) also has puppies sometimes too. There's a lot of rescues on Facebook. S.A.F.E. is another option. (Here)[https://www.facebook.com/groups/JaxPets/] is a page for people rehoming pets. Hopes that helps!

I know you are looking for a doggo before July, but I'll go ahead & mention the Mega Adoption put on by First Coast No More Homeless Pets. I think it will be in July, October & December. They bring dogs & cats from all the North Florida shelters into one arena & you can see what is available. Small dogs & puppies go fast.

If you are interested in a French Bulldog, I've got your hookup. Shes more of a part time breeder, but her bloodlines are strong and she spoils her dogs like crazy. (Cooks for them every day). She has to personally approve everyone who wants a puppy and they aren't cheap, but they are all great, healthy dogs.
My husband and I are looking to adopt a Great Dane. Are there any Great Danes in your animal shelter that may be up for adoption?
The S. replied:
Brodie is a Great Dane/Boxer mix that just got returned due to personal issues with his family. He is a very energetic 73 lb. boy. He is not yet available for adoption, but will be soon. Keep an eye on our website www.jaxhumane.org for him.
Anybody want a dog or know someone who does? He's fixed, house-trained, non-aggressive, a real sweet dog. Very good with children, very loveable. Adopted from Clay...
Lost. :( Decker (beagle) and Jedi (shepherd mix) got out sometime this morning between 8 and 9. No collars. I know, i know, bad idea. But decker just recently grew out...
