We use www.horsetraildirectory.com to plan to locate horsecamps every 8 hours but we did do a 15 hour day one time because their was a tornado near the camp we had planned to stop at. Our horses travel with a full hay bag and we stop every 3-4 hours at rest areas or truck stops that have a large grassy area. They are comfortable in traffic so we unload, let them eat grass and do their business and offer water although they seldom drink until we get to camp.

We love French Creek right in Custer State Park the best. They can accomodate your trailer. Elk Haven is great and you can ride to the Heads easily from there. They too can accomodate your trailer. Great hosts!!

We stayed at broken arrow 2 years ago (diff owners) and elk haven this time. We will be going back and staying at elk haven again simply because you ride right out of camp for some of the major trails but have to trailer from broken arrow. Broken arrow is 5 star and we saw some gorgeous views from there but had to trailer twice to avoid the lengthy beside the road trail to get to where we trailered to. Elk Haven is nice but not updated like BA. We go for the trails, not the accommodations though.
