Shannon Gibb Chastain, is correct per your map. HoneyCreek, just north of St Joseph, Missouri would hit your mark for your first day trip, the next close one is Waubonsie State Park, that i mentioned before. Just by looking at your map those are the best two for your first day of stopping. Newton Hills, and Union park just over the Iowa line into South dakota, would require a state park sticker. Honey Creek in Missouri, and Waubonsie just over the line into Iowa do not. both of these parks are just off interstate 29 and both are easy in, easy out for the rigs. Basing those two places on your one day two hour mark.

Cedar River in the U.P. of Michigan has a campground with some paddocks. Not sure of hookups tho. Trails to ride right there too. Farther to the east and a little north of manistique is the pine Marten trail with camping there or Ken buck resort close by the trail offer cabin and possibly camping and places for your horse to stay too. Fumee lake near Norway mi have some nice trails but no camping. I'm not sure if there is anything close to there for camping. Grand Island Trail has a trail head just a little north of rapid river with nice trails too. Again primitive camping. Also Halls Creek near Florence Wi have some really nice trails with primitive camping, last time I was there the spots weren't marked for camping just find a spot in the open area. When your trip gets closer stop send a message when you're close to the u.p. and feel like going for a ride.:) Safe travels to you.

We use www.horsetraildirectory.com to plan to locate horsecamps every 8 hours but we did do a 15 hour day one time because their was a tornado near the camp we had planned to stop at. Our horses travel with a full hay bag and we stop every 3-4 hours at rest areas or truck stops that have a large grassy area. They are comfortable in traffic so we unload, let them eat grass and do their business and offer water although they seldom drink until we get to camp.

Donna A. replied:
Wow, there are just so many to chose from! Flying R has a nice campground and shower house. The trails are nice but really only one that is considered challenging. Golden Hills has lots of challenging trails and a nice campground but the shower houses are old and not well kept. The trails are ungroomed and you almost need someone who knows the trails to show you the best places to ride. Von Holten Ranch has a nice campground and shower house, but they do not have a lot if trails and they are not real challenging. Pinecrest has a nice campground but you can get list easily. Brushycreek has a nice campground and trails. I have only ridden there once so I do not know if any of their trails are challenging. There are so many more, but these are the ones I have been to.

We are planning to go to the BSF in June... and have a few questions... Looking for electric\water... challenging trails... trails right out of camp to the Big South...
Nora M. replied:
Saddle Valley Campground is wonderful! Also love timber ridge, but not sure about the status come next June.
Nora M. replied:
Honeycreek Horsecamp is totally not all logging trails, lol. Some of the most amazing scenery out there.... Arches, views.... mostly all horse trails. I think we only ride one "road" trail out there all day last time we went. And it was a short distance on the way back.... So it was actually a welcome change after all the more challenging horse trails we'd rode all day long.

Sheila B. replied:
The Oh Chit trail isn't that bad...two rocks to jump up or down...depending if your going down to the O&W or headed up toward Honey Creek. One of these places you can go around if you like.
Melissa L. replied:
You can access the same trails from Zenith as you can Honey Creek, there not that far apart. I've stayed at Honey Creek once and had to ride alot of gravel road but it was a first time..I liked Zenith so well I didn't go back to stay at H Creek, or BSF Lodge. I've stayed at Catoosa, Saddle valley, Eastfork, as well, Zenith is my favorite

You can't go wrong with riding at BSF and there are several campgrounds that are all nice, it's just according to what you're looking for. Other than the ones that you mentioned, there is also one that just reopened with new owners this past summer. We stayed there in September and had a very nice time. It's called Spruce Creek Campground and it's a smaller campground with only 9 sites and a wonderful 12-14 stall barn. They have a FB page as well. Then there are the more private options whereas The Four C's is a private home that has 2 nice RV hookups, a wonderful big barn and turnout areas. They also have a FB page.:-)
Jan N. replied:
I have a cabarn I rent out and three RV hookups. We are 5 minutes through a private equine community to the Mill Seat Trail Head. You can see some pics on my FB page. N Joy N Trail Riding. You can also google my webpage NJoyNTrailRiding.com- have to google cause it's not live yet. I also go out with those who desire and guide. The park is beautiful from anywhere and you can't ride the whole thing at one spot!!
Glenda L. replied:
I have two nice size bedrooms with full baths. Stalls and or turnouts available. Bring own feed. Escorted Ride on the wonderful Highland Trails. Close to Big South Fork Trails No dogs or small children. 120 a nite for each bedroom and 2 stalls or turnouts. Continental breakfast. Beaty's cafe and store across the road will make up lunches and serve lunch and dinner.

www.sprucecreekcampgroundandstables.com We are located just inside Spruce Creek and have access to many trails. We are a smaller campground with lots of shade, w/s/e and a great barn!
Elaine E. replied:
i stay at NJoyNTrailRiding.com great hostess, and love the little cabarn,, and not even five minutes,, and you are on the O&W!!It has stalls and paddocks as well and also three rv hookups,, too, love that place
Debra M. replied:
Honey Creek has the most challenging trail of the campgrounds I have been to. If you have large horses the stalls may be tight but they will set up pipe corrals. True West Donna Martin has great trail access and an awesome barn. They will trailer you to the more challenging trails and you can ride back to their campground. They both have direct BSF trail access and great riding. All have water and electric.
A couple BSF locals said 80 s in June with high humidity. Humidity being key... I realize "hot" is relative so... "The weather along the Cumberland Plateau can be best described as unpredictable. Each season brings its own weather patterns. Summers are generally hot and humid, with high temperatures sometimes eclipsing 90 degrees." http://www.nps.gov/biso/planyourvisit/weather.htm

If you want challenging you need to go to Honeycreek Horsecamp. It's there! !
