Downtown Guthrie businesses were wiped out when good-ole-WalMart came to town. The small businesses couldn't compete. Remember downtown Guthrie, with 3 drug stores...

I remember a store that was a Furniture store (Nelson furniture). A sports store (sporting goods store--I want to say the name of the sporting goods store was nelson sporting goods--not sure though). Daniels Transfer which was a furniture store. Sears Store which was on Harrison street. The Pet Hospital is in the building beside where the Sears Store was. J C Penney's department store on Oklahoma street and across the street from J C Penny's ' was Anthony's department store. I remember going to Ben Franklin's and getting candy which was measured out by the pound or half a pound and the bag of candy was quiet full for a pound or half a pound. I also remember the Lady's Lounge which was a place the Ladies used to go downstairs and sit and relax during or after the Ladies shopping trips to town. The Lady's Lounge was downstairs and the entrance for the Lady's Lounge was between the Ben Franklin's and J C Penney store. Also, there was a beauty shop downstairs and beside the Ladies Lounge.
