I've tried all of the Chinese Food restaurants in Griffin plus the one in Zebulon and I'm not a fan of any of them. Does anyone know of a great Chinese food restaurant...
Nancy H. replied:
If you are ever in Newnan you must try Dynasty on Bullsboro Dr next to Regions Bank. I keep telling the owner they need to open a location in Griffin. Sometimes we plan a trip just to go there. No Chinese place comes close. I think u get a better deal with lunch than dinner. Food is always good and fresh.

Sonoran Mexican Food in ATL? My girlfriend and I are transplants from Tucson, AZ so every once and awhile, the undeniable urge for Sonoran Style Mexican food hits.

I moved from Tucson 5 years ago and still haven't found good Sonoran here. But then, I've mostly given up trying so if something decent to good has turned up in the last few years, I'd be interested.

You've heard of Buford Highway, right?
mazzizo replied:
Sorry señor no such thing. Im originally from Hermosillo,Son and there is absolutely nothing. There are a few places I like just to kill urges but Mexican food here is more central mexico or south. No asada tacos around here the closest thing are asada tacos from Taco veloz which is grilled skirt steak and they are bad but any other place that claims asada is just any type of beef on a griddle. Nothing similar to Güero canelo around here. =( bone garden cantina is not Sonora most of their señoras area from Guerrero are of mexico different type of food more like mexico city type pambazos and stuff like that. Sorry for the 1000 edits this typing on a tiny screen sucks.

Fellow Tucsonian here (born and raised). I spent too much time in the beginning trying to find Mexican food that was on the same level of even a Filibertos. It doesn't exist. The best I've found are the small taqueria type places inside a mercado.
Chile rellenos are poblano peppers out here (sometimes they can even be green peppers). Chimichangas are tiny. And unless specified your beef will be ground not shredded.
BUT there are so many other things we have here that are amazing that aren't available in the 520. Once I embraced the crazy awesome food scene here I quickly forgot about the food I was missing and started enjoying the tasty morsels of deliciousness the talented ATLiens crank out.

There aren't any great sonoran style places in town - you can check out Bone Garden ... it's sonoran~ish at times and kind of okay or something. taquería la oaxaqueña on mt. zion in Jonesboro (near Hartsfield) is the best bet as it satisfies your quest for oaxaqueñan food that also happens to be really good. The tlayudas there hit the spot.

I'm from California and bro, you just have to give up. Mexican food in Atlanta sucks. Develop a taste for southern food. When in Rome do as the Romans do as they say.
SpookyFarts replied:
I've heard Don Pedro is good, from my Mexican-American friend that grew up in LA. It's at 5130 Buford Highway, Norcross, GA. Might not be Sonoran, but it might be worth a try.

I'm a Los Angeles transplant. The best and most authentic Mexican Restaurants I have tried are Don Pedro (there are a few of them) and Mr. Taco in Roswell (also one in Alpharetta).
openboatgeorgia replied:
Go to Buford Highway. Stop by any of the taquerias (my choice is El Rey del Taco), the lunch counter in the back of Chicago Supermarket, or the Sinaloan chicken place I cant remember the name of. =/ I don't know if any of that is Sonoran, but it's a long way from the cheese-and-ground-beef crap you get at most mexican places in Atlanta. Edit: If you're around Tucker, try Taqueria Los Hermanos.

Speaking of the phone number, I can remember my Grandfather's business number, Walters Construction Co. because my mother worked there and I would pick up the phone and the operator would say, "Number please?" and I would say "642 please"

Mrs. Huckaba taught me at Goshen.

Gwen Henderson Qualls, she was our neighbor in Banks. She was originally named Mary Ruth, but her uncle said she looked like a Qumi. So, considering it was bad luck to change a baby's name, they tagged Qumi to her name, and it stuck. She was a Qumi, but then Homer was a Homer.
