Doctors in Kamloops, Canada

What's the deal with doctors here? My girlfriend hates waiting at the Summit Walk In Clinic in the early morning for a chance to get in sometime in the afternoon. It's awful. We're completely disappointed by the lack of doctors in the region.

I was given the contact information for Thompson Region Division of Family Practice from my Naturopath. They will put you on a waitlist and notify you of the first available doctor accepting patients. Not sure how it works (haven't put it to use myself yet), but according to a FB post I found, you fill out a form, and they contact you when an appointment is available. **To get more information on which doctors are accepting patients, phone 250-851-4013. They will take your contact information and send you a form to fill. Once the form is sent or faxed (see instructions on the form), you will be entered on a wait list.**

As far as i know the waiting list is the only way to go. Unless you are born into a family doctor you are pretty much screwed until there is room. Let me know if you find one though, I have a friend who just moved here who is in the same boat.

There's an interior health number that has a centralized list of physicians in the area, but I can't seem to find it offhand.

BC is in a pretty bad place right now for having GPs that are accepting new patients. What the government has done recently about this has been to say that a walk-in doctor must treat walk-in patients with the same level of care as they would a regular patient. The normal way to find doctors accepting new patients in your area in BC is to use [this form](https://www.cpsbc.ca/physician_search) on the College of Physicians and Surgeons website and select *Family Physicians* and then *accepting new patients*. I did that search for Kamloops and sadly nothing came up. I'd keep an eye on the search results however if I were you in case a doctor puts their name back on there. You may find it more convenient for yourself to see walk-in doctors until you find one that you like and then keep seeing that doctor for your needs. This way you can be sure that you A.) Like the doctor and B.) Can see them when it's convenient for you on short notice without having to book (what is often) weeks away. Most clinics websites these days will show you the doctors schedules. Good luck.

Apparently there is no doctors available in kamloops. My girlfriend comes to Merritt from Kamloops. I've been in Calgary and still have Dr. Smit as my family doctor. I come and see him whenever I have a chance.

Dr Simon is not a good doctor he made us wait when lily could hardly breath took 2 hours to see him after that I switched both my kids to Dr Mcleod

I had Dr Smit 10+ years ago when I lived here, loved him. But I guess he's gonna be leaving to retire soon and has a replacement he's training.
