I think all vets use Emergency Veterinary Hospitals now. None have "after hours" appts. Depending on what's wrong with the dog would depend on whether or not to use ER Vet. Forest South Animal Hospital in University Park has evening hours until 8 pm I do believe. And they have Sunday hours as well.

You can also contact Animal Emergency of Mokena,(708) 326-4800.

Kimber J. replied:
I also recommend Dr. Fitzpatrick.
Dana M. replied:
David P Fitzpatrick. And bleach (works great but dries out their hooves) iodine and thrush buster all work great. Make sure to keep it picked and clean.
Sarah M. replied:
Dr. Whitman (Piper City) & his staff are amazing. Highly recommend!!!!

Corinne W. replied:
We always use iodine for thrush.... Again it stains but works great. Incase you want a vet for a future reference though: Dave Fitzpatrick is awesome! 1815-932-3355
Shelly R. replied:
Dr. Fitzpatrick specializes in horses. I only use him. Dr Whitman in Piper City can also treat horses if Dr. F is unavailable. Dr. W is perfect for general horse care. And fabulous for cats and dogs!

I have a female goat that had her kids at about 1pm today. It is now 8:15 pm and she still has not released her plecenta....
Does anyone know of a vet in Illinois who will crop ears?
Elizabeth C. replied:
The lady I got my dog from takes her dogs to Forest South Animal Hospital in University Park. Try them. She has Canis Panthers and they get their ears cropped.
Opinions on veterinarians in the area? Good vs bad? Financial assistance? Pet care?

We left Kankakee Animal Hospital after Dr. Beeman retired (one visit with the other doc was enough for us & our dogs). We go to Compassionate Care in Herscher. VERY happy there, prices are good. I've been told they will work with you, if needed. We've been lucky enough to be able to pay for anything done up to this point.
Jill M. replied:
I like Bradley Animal Hospital.
Jeanie D. replied:
Dr. JOE!!!
Lisa T. replied:
I travel to Indiana for my vet, but in regards to financial assistance I recommend Care Credit. It's a credit card that lots of vets, dentists, and doctors take. Purchases over $250 are interest free up to 18 months
Mandie N. replied:
I only see Dr. Joe@Kankakee animal hospital.
Jennifer S. replied:
Never had any problems with kankakee animal hospital! Dr. Joe is the best!!
Taylor G. replied:
Dr. Carpenter at Bradley Animal Hospital just did surgery on my kitty a week ago and they were amazing!!! My baby is doing great!
Jen W. replied:
Agree with Doc Joe at Kankakee Animal Hospital. Only vet we will ever see
Chris Z. replied:
Dr Joe at kankakee animal hospital. I have been going to kankakee animal hospital for many years. Also liked Dr Murray there but he retired a year or so back!
Kathy G. replied:
I have been going to County West for years and love Dr. Fedrow but am not happy they went with VCA. They raised their prices, the nice front desk ladies are gone, and they do unnecessary testing.
Jewel W. replied:
Natural Pet Dr.Katz for holistic care. The vet in Herscher is also good for traditional medicine and boarding.
Mary B. replied:
We used to go to County West until they merged. I wasn't happy with many changes that came with the merger. Now we go to Southcreek in Manteno. We see Dr Wegner who was previously at County West. I am very very satisfied with our change! And if you went to County West, you will see a lot of familiar faces in the employess at Southcreek. Dr Wegner is the best as are her employees!
Maxine S. replied:
I also used to go to county west until the merge and didn't care for the changes. Now I go to Hersher Compassionate Care.
Deanna W. replied:
We took our pets to Peotone. Have always had great service with a realistic answer to what your pet needs. Love the Vets and the Vet Techs. They are also so amazing when you have to put your pet to sleep.
Lesa O. replied:
I personally like Dr. Joe the best, but don't mind the other docs at Kankakee Animal hospital. They are very caring. Don't know about financial assistance though, but I've never asked.
Maxine S. replied:
The cost at Compassionate Care in Hersher on all the care is reasonable and the work Staff are amazing.
Charlotte H. replied:
Dr Joe at Kankakee
Angela R. replied:
I would agree Dr. Joe at Kankakee animal hospital. We take our cats and dog there. He is a great vet
Janet V. replied:

Cheryl H. replied:
I use Kankakee Animal Hospital and like Dr. Joe Abrassart and staff. Prices not cheap but fair. My dog loves to go there for boarding
Debbie L. replied:
Dr Joe Abrissant at Kankakee animal hospital.
Barb S. replied:
Dr. Wegner at south creek in Manteno the best!!!
Sara M. replied:
I only see Dr Joe kankakee animal
Celia C. replied:
While I go to Peotone and County West for my "usual" pet care, if you have something that might be more "unusual" try Forest South Animal Hospital. They are fantastic!!! Better and cheaper than an emergency animal hospital. Dr. Coyne (I don't know if he's retired yet) is fantastic and his associates are very good as well. I have found that all the vets in Kankakee want to push you off on University of Illinois when they either don't know what the prolem is or they don't want to deal with it. Being a breeder for 27 years I have to have the best care for my dogs and I'm not afraid to travel a bit to get it.
