Hi all,
I am a single mom who my son will be starting at arrowhead in September and am having a really tough time finding a childcare center near there. I tried taking...

I don't know anything about them but I drive by this place all the time. They are just up the road from arrowhead near the QFC http://www.tlcearlylearning.com/contact/

Good luck to you, that sounds stressful. :( From DSHS's childcare subsidy page, perhaps helpful (?) "If you are not sure where to find licensed child care providers, your local Child Care Aware Washington agency can help. You can call them at 1-800-446-1114" http://wa.childcareaware.org/families/family-resources-1/your-child-care-search

Sorenson early childhood center is the district center that serves preschoolers with special needs (and other preschool students) they have a family advocate there that may have suggestions for you, they have complete lists of daycares in the district and may have suggestions for your specific needs. http://wwwnew.nsd.org/secc
Hi Everyone! I am new to the area and was wondering if anyone can recommend a daycare for a 4 yr old and 16 month old? Full time. Thank you!
Leanne H. replied:
Bright Horizons Bothell. Expensive, but teachers are happy, caring and paid well. They are popular so call soon so you can visit and get on a waiting list.

Northlake Montessori has been wonderful for our 4 year old.

Creative Montessori is fantastic. I toured Springtime and also left in tears, but maybe I went on a weird day. My son went to preschool at Morning Star and had a fabulous experience. He also did Creative Montessori- equally fabulous but a very diffe rent curriculum. I have heard wonderful things about TLC. I toured Bright Horizons in Bothell and it looked great- my son did Bright Horizons in Kirkland and we were very happy there. You have some good options around here.
Emily H. replied:
Sure. The good first. I loved loved the playground and was excited to see the outside space. The teachers I met were very sweet and caring people. I had no doubt they were doing their best. However, I toured the infant room and saw several babies very unhappy in their cribs, or high chairs or on the floor. Maybe it was the age of babies- maybe they aren't happy at that age in general- but a lot of them clearly had something they needed. Maybe they were tired, or hungry or bored or dirty- I don't know but they were crying. The room was too full of babies and there wasn't a way to attend to their needs all at once despite both teachers doing their best. The teacher shrugged and said there were just too many. I cried for the babies that I saw who were just aimlessly staring at a florescent bulb never to play outside all day long (the babies don't go outside) and not to be attended to quickly when they cried. I felt much much better about Bright Horizons when my son went there- they had two or three playtimes outside plus stroller rides and I never saw them just lying there crying or dirty faced and alone in their high chairs. When it came time for preschool I couldn't have been happier with Creative Montessori or Morning Star- both were great. I hope I haven't offended anyone re Springtime, that was just my very limited experience from one visit.

Kathy Mantik - I posted about leaving Springtime in tears too, but that was nine years ago. We were moving here from Redmond and my kids had been at Kirkland Children's School (amazing place). My oldest was finishing Kindergarten there and heading to A rrowhead the next year. My youngest was going into the pre-K program. I was trying to figure out what worked logistically for my husband and me as far as her pre-K program and possibly needing after school care for my older one. The people at Springtime were nice enough but the facilities and the "feel" of the place just didn't compare to what I was used to. To me, it didn't look like the kids at Springtime got the same level of one on one, or very small group interaction that we were used to from KCS. When I compared the pre-k curriculum and structure, there just was no comparison. Felt like Springtime was more about keeping watch/keeping them safe but not as much about the type of play/learning that 4 year olds are ready for. In the end, we left her at KCS that year. I worked in Bellevue at the time. Ditto what Emily Higson said, I hope I'm not offending anyone, just relating my experience. Trust your gut/maternal instincts/intuition when making childcare decisions.

My daughter went to Creative Montessori through Kindergarten and I can't say enough great things about it. My only regret is not putting out son there too but we found out about it after he started school.
For me I've heard nothing but bad things about Spring Time from both public school teachers & former teachers at Spring time. Therefore I personaly chose Morning Star over by Kenmore Lanes. Nithing but good things from teachers & former students parent s. The prices are AMAZING! Not to mention my daughter will ask to go to school there before staying home with me. The drop in teacher has a high education & has tought my daughter to write her name etc something I've never seen in a daycare before.

Hi parents of tots! I am thinking about registering my 17 month old for a fun & playful learning school that is NOT daycare-like. Any recommendations for a great school...
Emily H. replied:
No school for kids of that age should have electronics at all. You won't find them in any good program for tiny kids. I love a lot of waldorf ideas, particularly the being outside but do your research on anthroposophy and rudolf steiner to make up your own mind about it. That is a long way to drive to play outside. Are you looking for a drop off or parent involvement? Camp Roots is a local program out of St. Edward's park that you should most definitely look into- they have a once a week outdoor mom and toddler program that you would love.

My oldest son went to Bothell Family Cooperative Preschool for three years and is now going into kindergarten. My youngest son is starting there this year in their 2/3 s class. It is a play based school and my son loved it.

You can also visit alz.org - they have a 24/7 helpline for friends/family to call. There may be resources you don't know about yet. Dementia sucks, but getting the right help, well, it really helps.

We're about 90% sure we're putting our little girl at Columbia Crest Montessori in November when she turns one. We thought we had it sorted out with family to keep her a few days a week from September-November, but now I think our plans fell through and I'm back to looking for child care too!
Hey there!! Do you know of any daycare programs in Kenmore or Bothell that provide good services for children with special needs? This child is 3 years old. thanks!!
