Are you working under a remodel or structural remodel permit? I'm not an expert in the subject, but I believe that if the city gets wind of your desire to level the house and/or replace piers, they will require you to use a licensed raising/leveling/shoring contractor. A friend actually had a stop-work order slapped across his building permit until the city had proof that he had such a contract in place. I believe that this typically is a $10,000 expense.
That said, and the Realtor's comments above notwithstanding, leveling a average-size, wood-frame house isn't rocket science and is easily done with a couple of bottle jacks, basic knowledge of structure (framing), common sense, and patience. There are videos on YouTube of people showing how they level their own house in places like New England,
where there may be no building codes at all. As I said, it's not legal to do this in Orleans Parish.
The Realtor's comments are well-placed. To many people, structural or mechanical analysis is a sort of mysterious art best left to trained experts. I respect people who feel this way. On the other hand, I've attended engineering school, have worked in the trades for over 10 years, and would have no compunction leveling my own house if I lived in New England, say. In fact, I've just built my own (properly permitted) house based on the above qualifications, in addition to having read the relevant building codes, books, webpages, and, yes, YouTube videos. So, if you decide to go your own way, more power to you but keep a low profile.
Tread carefully.

Hey there, Realtor here. When it comes to foundation issues, when you go to sell the house, the reputation of the foundation company you use matters just as much as how good a job they do. I recommend a recognizable, reputable name like Abry Brothers or Davie Shoring. When you eventually decide to sell, if a buyer sees on your disclosure that you had foundation issues and you took care of it, it will be much easier to convince them that the problem was solved if you have receipts from a reputable company like that.
New Orleans I need a carpenter that can fix my paned door...it's not only the glass... it's the wood that frames the glass. It looks ghetto at my house...help. Thx.
