In the meantime, look into the IDEA ...Individual with Disabilities Education Act, also, check into the National Association of Protection and Advocacy System.... they should guide you and possibly provide an educational advocate. I will try and forward some info to you...but in the meantime research these two things. You will be surprised, Brianna is entitled to services. Shame of Florida

Friends B. replied:
Candace Wright can you just come live with us? Ok ok that was far fetched lol Thank you I will look into it and keep you in the know. Denise Kirk she does have an IEP. School here in Florida goes by county, not state. Isn't that awful. The thing about Florida to is there is no advocates/case manager's for the families or children. We are left on our own to find/fight everything.
Friends B. replied:
Another thing Denise Kirk, in NC everyone sat in on the IEP I could even call an advocate from the school district with Brianna's case manager to sit with me (kinda like having lawyers on your side of the table) Then they would say yes or no to things. Everything would be fully explained to me so I would understand that. That's not the case here. I don't even understand an IEP fully to be honest. The wording confuses me.

Yes! My friends mother just opened her own practice in Knoxville! It's a part of a Co-Op like situation where several therapists use the same office space and secretary but own their own business if that makes sense. She has a child in college currently (and about to graduate), so that may be a good fit! The practice website is: [westsidepsychology.com](westsidepsychology.com) And the therapist is Pamela Carpenter. Her website is: [pamelacarpentercounseling.com](pamelacarpentercounseling.com) I highly recommend her!

Healthy Mind counseling services is great. They have a lot of therapists and nurse practitioners to prescribe medication. I would definitely recommend them - just don't see Charlotte. Everyone else is fantastic.
I know this is a bit late but Northshore group has helped me a lot. They are a bit pricey though which is why I had to stop seeing them. They really are fantastic people though.
ZeMole replied:
ThriveWorks in Farragut has a very eclectic staff. They have videos on their site of each life coach/therapist telling you about themselves so you can pick one that you feel comfortable with before even going for your first visit.

Try calling Ebenezer Counseling Services. They have a tone of amazing therapists to choose from and almost all of them work on a sliding scale. They also take insurance. Good luck and if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

I see Carol Preston. She's a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and her office is in Fountain City on Essary. I don't know how you feel about medication, but I have taken medication prescribed by her from day one. She will only prescribe what you agree will be beneficial, though. I've encountered mental health professionals who are very anti-medication, so, for me, it was nice to see someone who wasn't like that. I've seen all types of people in her waiting room, too.

I go to Amanda Smartt at the Northshore Group, which is right near Papermill. I absolutely adore her, but she cannot prescribe medicine since she is a social worker rather than a full psychiatrist. Other people in the same group can prescribe though.:)
