I am looking for a new dentist in Pasadena area....any suggestions?
Doug A. replied:
Tim Knox in Burbank, 303 S. Glenoaks...1-818-846-1306. He was a lab partner of a friend of mine (60 years) at USC. My friend, also a dentist, told me he would let Tim do anything to him...I guesss that's enough of a recommendation. Tim has been practicing for over twenty-five years...very accommodating!

Tom A. replied:
Paul Genino in MOnrovia!
Alma A. replied:
Dr. Jon Workman on Huntington Dr.
Jill P. replied:
Dr. Sylvia Beeman is the dentist I went to when I was working at Caltech. I liked her a lot.
I was remembering our family's docs of the 70s -80s. Any still there...Dr Donaldson, Pediatrician, Dr Emrich, dental, Dr Batchelor, Dr Clark, Tip of my tongue for...
Frances T. replied:
My mom had Dr. Grace
James M. replied:
Dr. Gach was my kids pediatrician, he was so direct and down to earth!
Diana G. replied:
Dr. Clark was the best OBGYN! Don't think they make em like that anymore
Kaye S. replied:
Dr. Schwartz was my pediatrician, he also had a brother in medicine too. Dr. Hawley was my allergy dr. The best guy ever. Dr. Schwartz had his office next to Valley mem. hospital. The building is still there. There was a dr. that had his home and office in the old Den Daas interior building. If you look on the left side of it the door, that was his office. The small home in the back was his maids home.
David H. replied:
It's funny because Dr Schwartz (if i remember the names correctly) was stationed in Guam with My Dad in the early 1960's, and I think they did their residency at Oak Knoll Hospital in Oakland and they both ended up again in Livermore... If Dr Schwartz is the guy I am thinking of he loved to wear a scarf (to protect his throat from colds) and I believe he drove a porsche...
Kaye S. replied:
I remembered another doctor, Dr. Rummel delivered me at St. Paul's hospital.
Janis M. replied:
Dr. Urban was my dentist and Dr. Volponi was my optometrist. His son still is!
Frances T. replied:
I remember Dr Valponi
Pat D. replied:
I remember the Volponi name but don't know why since I had DR Kamena. There are many familiar names above.
Mark W. replied:
Dr. Volponi was an optometrist and Norm Volponi was a barber who had his shop across from the old Sno White drive in and next to Minnoggio's sporting goods store on North L st. He eventually opened the side pocket across the street.
Troy F. replied:
Dr Marshall Kamena (DDS), was on the city council and mayor too.
Kelly S. replied:
Dr. Clark's partner, Michael Bleecker, delivered my daughter. He was so very kind to me.
Chris F. replied:
Dr. Clark delivered both my boys
Troy F. replied:
My mistake, Dr Kamena was an optometrist.
Dale V. replied:
We went to Dr. Matthews as Family Doctor, Dr. Gurney as eye doctor and Dr. Polk as Dentist.
Kelly H. replied:
Dr Kamena was also the mayor. He was examining my eyes when the Greenville quake happened !!
David H. replied:
Anyone get surgery from Dr Greist? The other Docs called him "Dr Christ"
Kelly H. replied:
I adored Dr Danielson and Dr Alvarez, great dentitsts!
Sheila C. replied:
Dr. Donaldson was my pediatrician as well as my daughters until she retired in the early 90's.
David H. replied:
My Dad, Dr Hawley, who was Partners with Dr Donaldson for many years before they split up, and she began to do Allergy Practice like my Dad the Homeopath. He was Chief of Staff of Livermore Memorial Hospital. He retired just a few years ago at the age of 87. He is still alive at 93, hard to believe as he was around when they drove model T's and his father was a barnstormer (flew a biplane).
Sandi D. replied:
Dr Hawley was my Dr Wow!
Chris F. replied:
Dr. Gach on Stanley was my kids Pediatrician in the early 80's. He came in a couple times on a Saturday for a broken arm and an extremely sick child. He didn't even think about sending us to emergency.
David H. replied:
Pat, nope he was born in Joplin, MO. He was a medic in WW II and was among the first Americans to go into Nagasaki after we dropped the bomb. He became an MD on the GI Bill, and returned to the Navy at a Lt Commander, we were stationed in Guam, and Oakland CA. We moved to Pleasanton, and then livermore in the 60's. He was a Pioneer in the field of Holistic medicine.
Dawna M. replied:
I know Dr Clark is retired pretty sure Dr Bachelor is too.
Mick L. replied:
Doc Mathews was our family doc. He had the bedside manner of a rabid pit bull. He was the kind of doc that when you said something like, "When I hold my arm like this it really hurts", he'd reply straight-faced, "Well don't hold your arm like that".
Kelly S. replied:
Geraldine Donaldson was my pediatrician AND my daughter's as well. She was marvelous for me as young first time mom. Her advice was always excellent.
Cindy P. replied:
I only had a dentist named Dr Mac Farland what ever happen to him.? my family went to Kaiser so the only time I went to see a medical person in Livermore is when I swallowed my brothers Chemistry set ingredients.
Chris F. replied:
Dr. Clark. OBGYN? Delivered both my boys
Mick L. replied:
Pat H. Dawson, If your post about the families being alive was directed at my comment about Dr. Mathews then my comment was misconstrued. I thought he was an excellent Doctor, but anyone who was a paitent of his knew that he could be pretty gruff. I think he figured that if you wanted sympathy you should get that from your Mom, not from him. His job was to look after your health - period!
Sandi D. replied:
Mick, that's funny about Dr. Matthews. Sounds like he had a sense of humor!
Pat D. replied:
Mick Lamb No, not your comment at all. There was one after yours which has been removed. I have been on groups where one unfortunate remark causes a chain reaction and the family had to come on and defend a deceased father. When naming names, we should remember this is a public forum. I had a dr with the old fashioned approach also. When my friends were all having their tonsils out, my doc told my mom to forget it. It was a fad. He was right.
Daniel V. replied:
My Mom was office Mgr for Dr. Geraldine Donaldson from the mid-70's to about 1990 or so.
Kelly H. replied:
Dr Geraldine Donaldson was my pediatrician starting in 1965 or so, stitched me up when my sister whacked me with a 5 iron, also saw Doc Hawley from time to time
Carolyn Z. replied:
Dr Stahl died a few years back.
Pat D. replied:
Dr Hawley....that's one I couldn't remember his name. My two kids went there from 72 - late 80 s. Dr D was very into allergy treatment too.
Carolyn Z. replied:
Yes, my parents name was Devnich, but they were called Dr. Henry and Dr. Grace. Their office was next to the Veteran's Memorial Building on South L Street.
Angie N. replied:
I can't recall the doc. that had his office right across from where I lived,on so. liv.ave. Dr.Emerich started there at that office He was also my landlord. He gave my daughter Rosie her first job there.do you remember his name? VERY NICE MAN..
Pat D. replied:
I'm thinking Dr Emrich was orthodontist...my dghtr went there..West side of S Liv. Ave. Mine was on East side of the street. they were both older houses converted to offices. Can't remember his name. Dark hair....might have started with a G. He lived off college Ave down where the old water tower was incorporated Into the development.
Angie N. replied:
I lived right across their office on so.Liv.Ave. in a big old pink house {with a porch} loved it !! OH!!! I just remembered !!his name was DR.Gurney,he also owned the house we lived in.
Nadine H. replied:
Dr Donaldson was great. I was sad when I got too old to see her. My next doctor (I won't say who) was terrible.
Jolene B. replied:
I remember Dr. Shanks from Pleasanton in the 50's. He'd come and make house visits. Back in the good old days
Kelly H. replied:
Dr. Gach was super-cool! He came in to speak with me just after my son was born. He was wearing Birkenstocks. I was kind of high on Demerol and whatnot. He recited my infant son's vital stats. He added that my son had a very large penis; if he were another baby boy, he said, he would be jealous. I knew I had the right pediatrician.
Mark W. replied:
Dr. Shanks was our family doc when I was young
Susan D. replied:
I had Dr Schwartz. My step-sister's step-father was Dr Matthews.
Carolyn Z. replied:
Dr. Clark died in 2012.
Carolyn Z. replied:
After Dr Clark retired from private practice, he still worked at the Axis Clinic for a long time.
Dr. Shanklin in glendale is the best and very reasonable $$$.......1122 north brand blvd.
Andy R. replied:
I go to Dr Gonzales in Montrose. I know him from Soccer and he is also honest and cheap. He can give you a free consult I'm sure. And does payment plans. I've had a lot of issues with dentists and am so happy I found out my coach was a dentist. Y...See More
