Tree removal recommendations? Hello, /r/Denver,
I received a letter in the mail from the City of Denver requesting that I remove a dead elm tree from my backyard....

Thank you for all the responses! The City of Denver can be real jerks sometimes but I understand that it is an eyesore.

I have an uncle that owns a tree company that I actually used to work for. [Ambush Tree Company](http://www.ambushtreeco.com/) is the name. I honestly don't know how their pricing compares to others but maybe if you tell them that a nephew of theirs referred you, you might be able to get some sort of discount? If not, /u/artmom's idea sounds like a great alternative.

Not long after we moved into our house, we received a letter from the City of Denver stating we needed to have 5 trees removed within a two week time period. Had removal priced with Swingle and one other company and that bill came out to approx. $8,000 - and that was about 10 years ago. We didn't have that kind of money set aside for tree removal and called the City to tell them we couldn't meet their demands. Turns out the City had a finance system set up for just this issue. City will let you know who to contact to get the tree removed and then the City will send you a bill for the service. Instead of $8000, we ended up paying about $3500 and that was stretched out over 6 months or so. Check with the City - hopefully they still offer something like this.

Post on CL. I'm sure at least someone would love the wood and may tear it down for free.

Oh! Definitely use Mile High Tree Care. They are in Arvada and they are terrific. Affordable too. My family has used them for about a decade on our big trees.
