I’m guessing that lamp is a GU10 type, and will come out with a twist, I can’t remember which way. An LED replacement could cost as little as £1 and use a tenth of the electricity. Everyone should be looking at installing LED lamps now, I would always recommend choosing “warm white” for colour. Bert Haines has a good, reasonably priced selection, tool station and other such stores also flog them a reasonable prices. Dimmable LED lamps are available but you have to have the right kind of dimmer. The energy savings(money)are approx >80%. Also there is much less heat, so less fire risk, and no disposal issues, as with fluorescent lamps. An old fashioned “incandescent” lamp is technically a heater, so I’ve heard. There are many makes and colours of LED lamp, it’s easy to find ones to suit your tastes. I’d start with all spot lights, very fashionable in the ‘90s, and landings and hallways, lights that are on a lot (obviously).
