I saw Dr. Karp last year she only recommended PT, I wasn't impressed. We drove to St Louis, Dr. Veronnikis removed 3 implants from me. I lived an hour from Atlanta. Dr. Veronikis is an amazing surgeon.

Danyelle R. replied:
Betty Scott, that would be Dr. Brant Todd Heniford. My appointment with him was rescheduled for May since the local PCP couldn't be bothered with the paperwork. LOL. Hopefully this one will work out and we'll get to have coffee:-)
Cynthia D. replied:
Thanks Danielle Danyelle Robinson, so Dr. Brant Todd Heniford does the mesh removal non gyno/uroligic? I will reserch him!
Glenda S. replied:
My daughter has Alloderm biological mesh made by Lifecell for an abdominal repair. It is processed human cadaver tissue. It is used for burn victims as well. It cannot be removed for it grows into your tissue and produces its own blood veins. With this they used porcine made by the same company. Both are a foreign substance and can be rejected. Her body has rejected it and has been in misery for five years now. In 2013 after going through 3 major hospitals in Birmingham, Alabama no doctors would treat her. One of the hospitals is University of Alabama which is well know for teaching and research. We took a chance and brought her to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She has bowel obstructions and other physical symptoms as mesh recipients do. The surgeon took a 50/50 chance to do surgery and found the mesh had grown into her small intestine and removed the damaged 8 inches. Also had grown into colon. He found the problem but not a fix. She has been sick with diarreah, unexplained fever spikes, fibromyalgia, anemic, other problems and is bed 70% of the time. That was nov 2013. As I am writing this we we back at Mayo after visiting other major hospitals for help but no one would touch her. They have labeled her as high risk an do not want the liability. This surgeon said he would not touch her again unless she is having obstructions. Well, she started having obstructions about you 4 months ago which can be fatal. Her appointment is tomorrow and she is so anxious about this. She is 39 years old and has two children. PLEASE do research on this mesh. It is very expensive and so many doctors accept bribes from pharmaceutical and medical product manufacturers to use their products. Who can we trust anymore? We have found out very few you can trust because no doctor will even mention mesh when you go to the ER about to die in pain. My opinion as a mother who has watched her daughter in so much pain and her life wasting away I don't have an answer but I do know there is problems with biological mesh. It is not your gift to good health, as for her any way. Please research for some of it is a recall. Your hospital or facility where you have mesh implanted should have information on the type you have as well as the lot numbers. Good luck!
Betty S. replied:
Glenda look above under Danyelle Robinsons post the doctor she has researched is posted there. Dr Heniford.

I am in Georgia and did see the lead Uro-Gyn at Emory and she only wanted to snip my mesh. I ended up traveling to St. Louis to Dr. Veronikis because there aren't any doctors in Georgia that can do a total removal but he is pro-mesh and so if he finds that he cannot use your own tissue for repairs, you may want to go to Dr. Raz in California and see what he can do. I have heard fantastic things about Dr. Raz. He has the 3D or 4D Ultrasound at his disposal and will use it to locate the mesh prior to surgery, or at least that is my understanding.

I am in Ga and did the same- Dr V is the best!!!

Dr Michael Sisti. First presp ny. Great surgeon but I has Gamma Knife from him. Top dr
Sarah C. replied:
Hi! You've got this! My surgeons were Dr. Selesnick and Dr. Gutin at Sloan, and I loved them. Dr. Selesnick also operates with Dr. Steig through Weill Cornell. I almost went with them, but simply Dr. Steig wasn't in my network. My surgery was last April, and I'm back running and doing everything I used to do.
Kim S. replied:
I used Dr Michael Sisti at NY Presbyterian for surgery. I didn't like Galfinos at all. I'm sure he's a great dr, but Dr Sisti's manner, professionalism, and experience won out. Interview both and make your choice. Insurance will help make your decision. Follow ups and contact with Sisti are amazing and easy. Good luck
Ashley H. replied:
Hi there! I hope I can help a little. I am 7 days post op from USC with Dr. Friedman/Gionatta. An old high school friend of mine is a nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering. I've e-mailed her to see who there can help. She had a friend in NY go through the same surgery with a great outcome at that hospital. I'll message you when I find out! You're in a great place for support.
Lauren G. replied:
The Drs at Memorial Sloan are Dr. Gutin and Dr. Selesnick. Very good team. Also dr. Sisti at Columbia, Roland and Golfinos at NYU and Dr. Bederson at Mt Sinai. If you would like more info I am one of the NYC ANA support group leaders. We are having a meeting tomorrow night at NYU. if you would like to come join us, please call or email me. My info can be found on the ANA Website or just pm me.

Melvina J. replied:
I agree Dottie. Unfortunately, for some individuals who are fighting for their lives and trying to find someone who will just remove the hernia mesh. Right now their focus, fight and energy is on trying to just find someone who is willing to remove it. Its going to require lawyers, doctors and patients or (should i say victims ) to bring it to the surface. Bruce Roseburg is definitely one of the most heard and seen hernia mesh vicitims and advocates out there. Eventually we will have justice and hopefully get mesh band all together.
Terri G. replied:
I contacted Dr. Kevin Petersen online and after giving him my symptoms, he agrees it's my mesh. He's in Las Vegas and he doesn't accept insurance. I have been on disability since 2011, so living on a very small fixed income, can't afford the travel, eats, motel stay and what Doctor charges that insurance wouldn't cover. They tried me in the amitripoline too, it didn't help.
Kari T. replied:
Well I have been looking for a doctor as well for my inguinal hernia mesh plug x2. I spoke with Dr. Kevin Peterson as well and was told the same thing. I heard, The Dr from Florida was not performing that surgery any longer and was not advised of him by an advocate. It has been a nightmare and stole my life as well. I have been going through this for years to only get worse. I know there are doctors removing the sling and vaginal mesh but no one to remove hernia mesh. I found this to be completely unfair and that the fact that it was never recognized and no lawsuit or a lawyer to even take a case. I looked up the doctor at UCLA whom removes the vaginal mesh and reconstructs with high reviews. While looking him up I saw the hernia surgeons that state they remove hernia mesh when all other methods fail. I have not called them yet. I have been to many doctors over the years from two states. The latest University I have been going to agreed it was the mesh (after all these years) but said, unlike the vaginal mesh, inguinal is a lot more complicated. I was told the risk was extreme due to the nerves and blood vessels and surgery could destroy my abdominal wall and left leg (which it's already doing and more). I know that doctor in Nevada has done these surgeries. I only know of one he turned down (inguinal). This is all I know so far but I am still looking. If I find anything, I will post it.
Las Vegas friends, I need an OBGYN (mine retired) any suggestions? And remember I need a good surgeon for when we have our last kid in a couple years. (I'M NOT PREGNANT!)
