And don't just take my word for it. The Google maps reviews mostly agree. Sorry I don't actually know of a good place.

There is a place in Fairview Heights that does repair. I can't speak to the quality of his work, but he was very friendly and didn't try to gouge me. I had an odd pair of dress shoes that needed repair, he explained that the best he could do was patch them, and that I probably wouldn't like the results, particularly for the price tag (and the original cost of the shoes). I can't even find a reference to the place - but it is at the corner of Rte 159 and Ashland Ave.

There's a place on the Hill, at the intersection of Macklind & Magnolia. They could have closed, as I went there about 5 years ago. Anyway, it's some little old guy with just piles of shoes around him. I gave him a pair of shoes to fix, and though "oh great he's going to lose these," but I guess he has some system down, and he did a great job fixing the soles for like $20.
