If you have or know someone with a Costco membership, they have a good selection of cakes. You could even order and personalise a birthday cake for under £15, or just pick up something as simple as a Victoria sponge for less than a tenner. They have quite a bit of choice and are very reasonably priced. Obviously the membership thing might be an issue, but you may strike lucky and find someone you know might be able to help out in that respect.

I got a customised birthday cake from these before and it was very nice: http://lovencake.co.uk/ I don't remember how much it cost but I remember it was reasonable. It wasn't a massive art work, just a simple square cake with some writing on.
