If you want a bit better than The Old Mill, and wheelchair friendly, I would suggest The Unicorn, or The Mount.. Really posh would be Lloyds Restaurant at the top of town. Out of town The Lion in Llandinam is supposed to be good.

The Old Mill is incredibly dark, it isn't deaf friendly. I lasted all but less than five minutes in there. I couldn't see well enough to communicate. Disability access extends beyond wheelchairs - which has enough of a problem in Mid Wales. The DDA was first enacted 19 years ago.

I state my needs and I spend my entire life educating people. I teach other people too. However, the law is also there and there is an element of taking responsibility. Second, there is a lack of visibility because events and so forth are not accessible in the first place. Here's a question: when was the last time you saw a BSL/English Interpreter at an event in Llanidloes? My guess is never. That's the frequency I am able to access events. I am not hard of hearing, I'm profoundly deaf. My preferred language is British Sign Language. I cannot make use of loop systems, etc. If events aren't accessible in the first place, then the likes of me are off radar in terms of community discussion. And yes, before anyone asks I have asked. Access is not a be all and end all concept. This town has a long way to go as far as accessibility goes. The last time I tried to bring this up within Llani I was literally told to f*** off and go and live somewhere else. There is a lot of ignorance out there. If you can access things, good for you - I am pleased. That doesn't apply to everyone. The Montgomeryshire Disability Forum has highlighted issues for a few years (that said they're rather wheelchair centric but it is a start). I've fed into other channels where I am able.

Great Oak Cafe has disabled access and toilets. There is a ramp that can be brought out to access the coffee bean, but no disabled toilets.
Graham D. replied:
Great Oak Cafe certainly has, as does the Old Mill.
