Hi. Does anyone know the progress on turning Bishop Percy's into cafe and hotel etc?
Janet S. replied:
The new owner of one of Bridgnorth’s most historic properties has unveiled her latest plans for its development. Maria Allen bought Bishop Percy’s House, which dates back to 1580, earlier in 2013 and has now submitted plans to Shropshire Council. She is seeking permission to open a tea room on the ground floor, with holiday let apartments on the first and second floor. Part of the gym, which stands at the rear, will be removed to create outside space overlooking the river for the tea room customers. The rest of that building will be rebuilt to create two contemporary houses with a mono pitch grass seeded roof which is lower than the original pitched asbestos roof on the gym – giving the houses on Cartway a better view of the river. Permission is being sought for two contemporary houses with grass roof at the rear of Bishop Percy's House Maria, who has worked with Bridgnorth architects Johnson Design on the scheme, said the new houses had been designed to be different to the historic main property, rather than mimic it, so the elaborate timber framed Grade I listed building will still stand out. “We believe that if these restorations and renovations can go ahead, this will be a great improvement to the present site as I think that everyone will agree that the gymnasium is a bit of an eyesore,” she said. “It will also create business and interest in Low Town.” Bishop Percy’s House was one of the few properties to survive Bridgnorth’s great fire of 1646, but it has stood empty for 10 years.

15/01388/VAR is the latest, a request for full residential use of the basement and the cottage building. A decision has not yet been made by Shropshire Council. http://pa.shropshire.gov.uk/online-applications/

Gary Hughes, the best indian food is at Rang Mahal at the top of Rembrant Hotel. Expensively, but worth every baht, much like a good uk indian. Try the Chicken Malai it is fantastic. Tikkha's, Tandori"s, Vindaloos, Rogan Josh, Naans etc.
Matt B. replied:
