Quick note, check with him before getting it refurbished, he may enjoy the tattiness of the watch, some sentimental value will be lost if it's reconditioned! obviously personal opinion!

There are several on Clerkenwell Road, it used to be a watch-repair district, I think. Still at least two open just east of St John st, one on each side of the street.

Thanks Judy. Pat you can order a long birth certificate from the GRO http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ Civil registration began in 1837, but some slipped through the net in the early days, by 1916 you should be ok!
