It's well out of your area but this guy comes highly recommended & at least half the price you've been quoted definitely worth giving him a call he is very helpful even if you aren't looking at using his services straight away he was more than happy to advise https://www.facebook.com/KfkAutos/

Body repair is a labour heavy trade. I did 8 years of main dealer spraying and worked with lads who could rear 1/4 replace a brand new audi/merc. I can't say extactly why your quotes so high without seeing what it is you need doing. It's one of two world's... either the guy you approached in fact does a good job and he knows in reality what it's really going to take to sort it out, or its someone who plain doesn't want the work because vehicles rust like hell. If you think you have abit of a sill repair, it is in fact a whole new outta sill and most of the inner. Body repair really is massively labour intensive and most people out there offering their services can't atchually do it properly. Most people will also tell you what you need and gladly take your money, they will weld it up but fewer still blast clean the metal and tell you about zinc phosphate and epoxy primers. Pal if you want some advice from me (no money/time) motivated, feel free to pm me and I will help you.
Really want to save my sister's 1979 Mercedes 207d and rebuild rather than just scrap a classic that's only done 93k. It had a clean MOT bar two advisories in 2012-13...
