You might want to find out if you can have the leaks fixed without replacing the windows, because new hardware turns it into a much bigger job. Building codes might not allow the exact window type that the house was originally built with. Depending on the details, you may need permits. Usually there will need to be some work on the drywall inside and siding/stucco on the outside, especially if the new windows aren't the exact same size. On the other hand, updated windows will typically increase the value of the property and make the building more energy-efficient. Your electric utility might offer rebates or loans for the upgrade.
