Jessie Montgomery, having worked professionally as an assistance dog trainer for an ADI-accredited agency, I encourage you to seek out a trainer with specialized experience in that realm of training. The training a service dog team (dog and human) requires to work safely and effectively in public goes well beyond basic (or even advanced) obedience. I recommend contacting Assistance Dogs of the West in Santa Fe (www.assistancedogsofthewest.org) about their "owner/self-training" program. They sometimes have scholarships available, so ask about that. Locally, Marnie George also has experience training assistance dog teams, and is a superb trainer. Good luck!
What dog-friendly businesses do we have out there? One of my specialties at Proton Pawsitive Dog Training is working on exceptional manners in public... we usually work...

Ummm . . . Pet Pangaea.:-) Otowi used to let dogs in; we'd stop there during Downtown Dogs. I miss them! I've seen dogs inside LANB, but I do not know the official policy.
