Hi mums,
I have a newborn and we are still getting the hang of breastfeeding but still want to get out and about. Have gone to a few cafés now where the parents room...

My brother's cafe is Cafe102 on Gladstone Street in Fyshwick. Although he doesn't have a feeding room, he does have a lounge area which is at the back of the dining area. If you sit with your back to the dining area, nobody would know what you were doing - plus the TV is right there so you can watch something while enjoying a cuppa. The other option is to get in touch with your local ABA group - they often have coffee mornings and when there is a group of mums together, sometimes it is a little less obvious that you are feeding. Your can find your local group contacts here www.breastfeeding.asn.au/contacts/groups

Woden Plaza has fantastic feeding booths in its parent's room upstairs, which is in a safe, high traffic area. I carried one of these with me everywhere eventually though and private comfy feeding was a breeze. These covers pop over your neck so there is no slipping of fabric. They also have a hard seem across the top so you can see bub to position, attach etc. Pop it over your neck, prepare yourself privately, pick up and position bub and away you go wherever you are :) https://www.bebeaulait.com/breast-feeding/nursing-covers.html

Parents rooms in big malls are great, but they're almost always a long corridor or half a mall away from the cafe action. Cooleman Court at Weston has a really nice parents room with all the amenities but on a smaller scale and right in the middle of everything. It's immediately opposite Michel's cafe and just a couple of shop fronts away from the Coffee Guru. Sakeena's Cafe, a bit further away (near the southern exit) is a great non-chain option too.

I was the same as you, breastfeeding has been tricky for me and my lil guy and so I too felt nervous in public. A bite to eat at Chiffley Wd the first place I fed Orson in public, they have a AVA sticker on the door saying breastfeeding mothers welcome. I started out feeding him in parents room and gradually became more confident out and about

For those in need of a laugh, Canberra 'glam-duo' Sparrowfolk' have written a fantastic song about breastfeeding in public. You can watch it here on YouTube. It's called 'Ruin your day" https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-dw2XHMUnyE

There's a good parents room at the Canberra Centre near Pumpkin Patch and good ones at Tuggeranong and Woden too. I also found it really helpful to have a good quality nursing cover (like this one: http://babybabyonline.com.au/products/bebe-au-lait-nursing-cover-camden) that allows you to see the baby for latching while staying completely covered. Also helpful for later on when the baby is older and easily distracted.

Take the Circle Line full island cruise around the island of Manhattan, it's a great perspective on the area and wonderful on a sunny day: http://www.circleline42.com/new-york-cruises/cruise-details.aspx?id=1

There are some great roof-top bars with killer views. Even great with the kids. My favorites: Press Lounge at the Ink 48 Hotel (must see), Upstairs at the Kimberly (I think you have to take Kim there), and Empire Hotel Rooftop.

I really like Main Street Burger. I haven't been inclined to try Stumpy's as a friend said it was 'just ok' and The Table was super expensive when I went by there for brunch, so it'd have to be a special occasion for me to go back there again. Hadn't even realized that there was a burger place at Willow & Bird; I'll have to go by there.
