Does anyone know the status of the Dollar Store on Veterans Memorial Highway? They've built the building and now its just sitting… I truly did not want it in our...

Mr. Coker: Thanks for your question and your concern. I do not know of the status of the Dollar Tree Store at the present time but perhaps the Planning Commissioner for our area, Mr. Galt Porter, might could answer the question of the status of the store? Parcels of land are assigned given categories by the County and if the proposed use fits within the designated uses allowed by that particular developer/business, then it is much much easier for that developer/business to receive the approval to proceed. As far as your question about attracting other types of development and businesses to the area, MIC has an Economic Development Cmte within it and if you would like to get more involved please let me know. Again, thanks for your question and know that MIC shares your concerns about intelligent growth and quality of life within the community.

Wow! Great to see all this conversation! This Dollar Store was built on property already zoned General Commercial, so there was no need for re-zoning, which is the public's (and MIC's) opportunity to be involved. Personally, I think the Dollar Store looks a lot better than the old, tired welding shop that preceded it. I chair the Zoning Committee - we don't usually have regular in-person meetings, but if there is interest from new folks in getting involved, then we will set one up. Baron, you can email me directly at zoning@mableton.org -- and I'll look forward to meeting you tomorrow night.

Baron Coker, to answer your question the store opening has been delayed due to Community Development's requirement for a higher quality landscaping than that which was going to be originally installed. The county's Community Development office is aware that the community more than likely did not desire a dollar store, but due to the site already being zoned General Commercial as Robin Meyer stated, there was no rezoning requirement which would have given me and the public opportunity to condition, limit, or prevent the dollar store from going in the current location. Though the store is not ideal for many, it will look a lot better than the old run down welding site, and have quality landscaping to try to reflect the desired aesthetic of the area. As Sonya Wheatley and Robin Meyer shared it is important to be actively engaged in zoning. MIC is active in zoning cases and offers an excellent forum to get engaged. You can also always attend county planning commission meetings the 1 st Tuesday of each month at 9 a at 100 Cherokee Street in Marietta and the Commissioner's zoning hearings the 3 rd Tuesday of each month at 9 a at the same place to hear zoning cases. Moreover, you can also come to sessions I have the 4 th Wednesday of each month to obtain briefings of upcoming zoning cases. Finally you can visit Community Development's on the Cobb County website for more information. Hope this helps.

I unaware of all the restaurants in Mableton....though I am familiar with all the Fast Food places, with the exception of Zaxby's on Floyd Rd and the seafood place on Vets Memorial. Austell has quite a few...but I'd like to see some other developments near Vets Mem & Oakdale Rd. Otherwise, I'll keep spending money in Atlanta at Cumberland Mall, Maggianos, PF Changs, Teds' & Cheesecake and just wait out on the long lines and congested parking!
I'm not sure where else to ask this so if it's not ok here please delete and accept my apologies in advance. We are moving back to Mableton in a few weeks and would...

Siracusa's--on the East West Connector toward Smyrna--is a locally owned option for pizza and other fare. They have really good tiramisu, too! It's a place with that "where everybody knows you name" atmosphere. Maru Sushi in Smyrna is awesome, too.
