Is your carpet dirty above and beyond normal wear and tear? I'm pretty sure in Madison you can not be charged for carpet cleaning by your landlord. You still need to vacuum the carpet, but any stream cleaning or carpet shampooing falls on the landlord, not the tenant. Save yourself a ton of money and just rent a rug doctor at a local grocery store. You'll just need to buy one bottle of the shampoo for your use but then you can do it yourself. It's not much harder than vacuuming and they should be able to explain the process to you when you rent it.
