Huh. At one point I thought I lost my car key, so I called different dealerships that sell vehicles from my manufacturer. All they asked was that I show up with my title and $40 to make a new key. The auto manufacturers keep records of the keys attached to each VIN, and it costs like $30 for a local dealership to look it up, then $10 for the key. Have to tried all of the dealerships in town that serve your car manufacturer? That sound weird to me. And towing is freakin expensive.

ADC Lock on the east side have always done well by me. And I know that they do service calls. But a lot of it is going to depend on the car. Newer ones pretty much require going through the dealerships.

Your ignition key, or your door key? Because, I mean, a locksmith probably won't be able to hotwire your car. That's not really what locksmiths do. And if you can't get it started, you're going to have to tow it regardless of who unlocks the door.

I would wait until you hear from the building manager. They aren't really meant to be copied and there are a few different technologies out there. Newer ones are much more difficult.

Key fob for the garage? We only got given one, one parking space, despite we have two motorbikes and 1 car in the one parking space (yes possible to fit all) it is annoying but I didnt know it is possible to copy the fob :o
Kytec replied:
The building I live in keeps track of all cards and does a monthly audit of them, they cancel the original out of the system if copies are used. Also $500.00 is absurd, I've seen $80 to $120 before. Have a chat to your real estate as well, as they may be able to confirm that price, if they say $500, I'm sure fair trading would love to hear about it.
