Hi Debbie 'Munns' Wall, we live in Wisconsin. I take my daughter who has jia to children's hospital of Wisconsin. I would recommend Betsy NP in the rheumatology clinic. I know many people in WI travel hours to get there. Hope this helps.
Lori S. replied:
Minneapolis children's.... Dr. Riskalla (formally Dr. LePlant) has been very good with my daughter. I love that I can call anytime day or night and can reach someone. Dr.Riskalla frequently personally calls back but there is an RN specialized in Rheumatology too.
Lori S. replied:
Both Dr.Riskalla is a female and the RN is too.

Are you looking for the general Madison area? I actually work with the general pediatricians here at UW Health.
Kirsten S. replied:
They have family medicine in Portage and Deforest, but no pediatricians. The closest ones would be at East clinic. We have Troy Kleist, Laura Houser, Meriel Rongstad, Amy Plumb, and Gwen McIntosh. I'm not sure how far out they're booking right now, but Amy is amazing.
Hi! I'm not sure if this is where the best place to post about this is or if someone can point me in the right direction - but I'm wondering if anyone has some...
Madison S. replied:
Recommendation from MADSS member: Dr. Julie Waraksa Pediatrician Janesville, WI (Rock County) http://www.deancare.com/doctors-locations/find-a-doc/doctors-profile/?id=2027Dr. Waraksa is currently accepting new patients and has accepts patients with Down syndrome. I'd just like to add a few statements here: Dr. Waraksa is absolutely the most open, honest, and organized doctor I have ever worked with. She is always open to hearing new ideas, research, or concerns. She has never dismissed any symptom as "oh, that's just Down syndrome." Whenever she gets stumped (which has been rare), she immediately reaches out to her network of fellow doctors for answers. Prior to my daughter's CAVC repair, she was in constant contact with her cardiologist. I believe it was her successful partnership with the cardiologist that made [my daughter] so healthy prior to surgery. Nothing fell through the cracks. She would also send weekly emails to her team of pediatricians so they were all familiar with [my daughter's] case on the off chance she would get sick and we would need to see someone else. She uses people first language. She knows what she's doing. And on top of it all, she's warm, gentle, and cares for [my daughter] as a person, not as a diagnosis.

If you are now with UW Health, we really like Dr. Amy Plumb. I am not sure if she is taking new patients, though. She is at the East Terrace Clinic. We have seen most docs out there when Boo had her ear infections. Dr. Troy Kleist is nice too. He is a staff physician now and we also saw him when he was a resident.
Kimberly S. replied:
Plumb (she is great, but not likely accepting new pts), Gwen MacKintosh, Kleist are all very good and at UW East Clinic. I know there are many really great options in town thru UW and GHC.

This is over on the west side - but we were very pleased with the staff at Associated Physicians. Dr Sia or Dr Nondahl were our main pediatric physicians. Great staff and very accommodating. I never felt like I had to wait long for an appointment and they always worked us in if there was an emergency. (I'm talking ear infection, fever, etc - not an Emergency Room situation.)

Alesha L. replied:
I live in SLP and love Dr. Walters at 3850 park Nicollet pediatrics. To meet other moms we go to parks and malls
Kella A. replied:
All the docs at Pediatric Services are great. They are on Minnetonka Blvd in SLP. Two of my friends go there too. Smaller office, easy to get appointments, really friendly staff. Story times at libraries are one way to meet people. You could check if SLP has early childhood classes like Mpls does. SLP parks may have kid classes and events too. Good luck!
Can anyone recommend a good pediatrician in Madison?
Sara P. replied:
Dr Cartwright at Cornerstone Pediatrics! Love him!
Ron A. replied:
We take Kaileigh to Huntsville Pediatric assoc. but thats hsv. Great place if you want to go that far.
Leslie B. replied:
We currently go to Huntsville Pediatrics and his current pediatrician is nice and good. The office staff and her nurse are so unfriendly and rude which is why I want to change. I also would like someone closer to my house for convenience sake.
Ron A. replied:
Really? Who's your Dr? We have Dr Klem, no problems with anyone. Sorry to hear that.

Dr. Dudley at Pediatric Associates of Madison. I've liked all the doctors we've seen there and the staff is great.

Wildwood family practice, Dr. Middlefort, she's great.
Madison peeps-who has the best UW (insurance) pediatrician they could recommend for a new neighbor?
Amandalynn J. replied:
Dr. Gail Allen@UW West Towne is wonderful and fantastic, however it can also be hard to get an appointment on short notice and her associate Dr. Koslov was nowhere near as good (totally missed an obvious pneumonia diagnosis - twice, and acted like I was overreacting when I told him Dmitri couldn't breathe well) so I would not recommend your friend use him.
Michelle W. replied:
we love Dr. Yu. He's at the UW Health East Clinic. I'm not familiar with any west side peds.
Sue J. replied:
If looking for east side, Dr. Yu is great. 23 years with him for my family.

Alison W. replied:
Dr Yu at UW Union Corners... He's amazing!!
Josie P. replied:
We see Michelle Bryan at Yahara, she’s family practice so sees me and the kids and I love her. Her kids are the same ages as mine within a few weeks (4 and 2), which kind of sucked when I had newborns since we couldn’t see her, but it also means she’s right there in the trenches with me, she totally gets it. She’s answered totally random emails about my kid smearing crap all over the furniture sincerely and without judgement, takes the time to call me herself if I’m really worried about something instead of having a nurse call me, and has squeezed my kids in between appointments for sick visits instead of sending us to a PA or NP (who are both excellent, but sometimes that extra effort to see you own doctor means a lot!)
