Can anyone recommend a good/not too pricey dog groomer? I've been bathing the dog myself, but it's pretty traumatic for him (no matter how many treats he gets) and I...

[Rufus Dumonde](http://www.rufusdumonde.com/) across from Machinery Row downtown. Very accommodating for my emotionally-needy dog. I have been going to them for years, and have always had the best experience with them.

Tabby and Jack's is great, there's one in Fitchburg and one on the square. Pretty reasonable, and "holistic." They have flexible hours, too. http://tabbyandjacks.com/Grooming.html

Royal Pets on E Wash is the least expensive place that I don't get a bad feeling from. They are SO nice to you and your pet and they do a great job.
Looking for a nearby cat groomer? I have a fluffy little guy who needs a good spring grooming!

Spa Woof.... only place in town that knows what to do with English Setters and great prices.
Mona E. replied:
Just an aside about Spa Woof, because I'd be interested in hearing if anyone ever had something similar happen. It has nothing to to with their skill or service, and is not meant to discourage anyone from going there--it sounds as if people really like them. i went over there shortly after they opened (without my dogs), to see if they would be interested in hosting a doggie playgroup occasionally. They gave me the grand tour and I got totally creeped out. That building was the former Humane Society and I had spent s lot of time there and, I swear, I was getting vibes of sad, lost, and dying animals. I never went back, but have often wondered if dogs pick up on that, or perhaps it has been long enough that that never happens now. At the time I discovered other people had had similar experience there, to. As I I said, it was very creepy. I do not often get those kind of feelings, so it has stuck with me all these years. Anyway, I probably sound nuts to some, but if anyone has ever had an experience like that, I'd like to know, even if it was somewhere else.

Faye, Jessica is no longer at the atlas location. She was our groomer because it was a cage free environment, which I need.
Mona E. replied:
We have always gone to Camp K9 and think they do a great job, whether the breed needs a simple wash and dry or a more complicated cut or mat removal, etc. They are excellent about listening to what you want and then doing it. They include nails and ears, too, I think. That is also the only place we board our pets. 249-3939--I have them on speed dial, LOL!

Are you on east or west side? Regardless, I’ve found it helpful to do a google image search and print off a pic of exactly what you want. If a groomer still gets it wrong, you’ll know not to go back. The other tricky part is that many businesses employ a number of groomers, so you might get a different human (and slightly different result) every time.

I just had a great experience with serenity pet spa on the east side. My dog is not good with groomers and when I picked him up, not only did he look adorable, the groomer (I think her name is Caitlin?) took the time to tell me exactly how the cut went and that when my dog would start to get stressed, she’d let him chill until he felt comfortable with him. I really got the impression that she cared about him and wants him to not be afraid of her, so she gave me some things to work on with him at home. I also noticed that this is the first time I’ve brought him home from a groomer without a scab or two, which makes me feel a lot better.
Madison peeps - Sanibel is looking for an in home dog trainer as well as a dog groomer...any recommendations?
Wendy R. replied:
Dog's Best Friend does in-home training, but I think it might be pricey. Our dogs aren't the grooming kind, but my BIL and SIL take their dog to Rufus du Monde and seem to like it there.
Julie H. replied:
Dogs Best Friend. Mark. My dog loved him and he walked her twice a week for a couple years for us. Could not be a nicer guy. Inbox me if you want his phone number.
