The 1099 positions are all cons and no pros. It is a misclassified worker position where you should be an employee but the business skirts the tax and labor laws by shifting the burden of taxes and other expenses onto the worker yet still trying to control them as if they were an employee. That's not legal. By attempting to classify you as an IC (1099), a business does not need to follow minimum wage laws, hours laws, or pay for workers comp and unemployment coverage for that worker. Also, the typical service fee split that a business pays an IC can also violate healthcare laws that govern the practice of MTs depending on the state you are in. Incredible contractor Phil Parotta... has done everything from remodeling to building entire homes. Have used him in the past and was always the best in price with the best outcome.
Aimee Bailey . I agree. Of course it's understood that issues arise. But what I am referring to is a contractor that gave my mom no estimate and Just kept asking for more money for supplies every day. It's hard to explain but every time my mom asked ...he just said don't worry...I'm gonna take care of you. It ended being a lot more money than originally thought. And in addition to that. The work was shotty at best. Her cabinets are falling apart. He never properly fixed the water damage in the ceiling. There is just a laundry list of things done horribly wrong.
anyone have siding put on recently? contractor suggestions?
