There are plenty of great tattoo artists in Minneapolis, but I want to make the point that first, you get what you pay for, good work isn't cheap and cheap work usually isn't good, and anything you're getting like a tattoo is absolutely worth taking a trip for the right artist and the right shop. You can try Uptown Tattoo, or Sea Wolf which just won the award for best tattoo shop of the twin cities (Saint Sabrina's got the people's choice award or something). Leviticus and Jackelope are other shops in minneapolis, and there's a ton in St. Paul too. A good way to approach this is, there's like 10 artists per shop and each of them will have portfolios on their website. I'd start by first finding the artist who you can tell from their portfolio are experienced and do good work in the [style](https://www.tattoodo.com/a/2016/02/a-beginner-s-guide-10-tattoo-styles-explained/) you're looking for, then schedule a consultation and see if it's a good match and if you get a good vibe from the shop and the artist.

Check out Thaddeus Paskey at Electric Dragonland Tattoo in Hopkins, Definitely one of those get what you pay for situations, he is definitely not cheap but an amazing artist. I personally go with Mike Grant at Blackend Tattoo, his work fits my style a bit better. Definitely have to reiterate what shalala said about finding someone whose style you enjoy.
Tattoo shops? Any good tattoo shops in the twin cities area? I want to get my first tattoo this year and been looking in to shops around the area but you can only get so...

So we have a lot of talent in the twin cities, so maybe giving an idea on what you’re looking to do may help? I’ve been tattooed by Thad at Electric Dragonland the most, but all the artists there are amazing. I have been tattooed by Jarred Kincaid at Tiger Rose and he does a great job if you’re wanting anything that’s cartoon/anime related. I think Tiger Rose is more catered to be a flash shop, however. But, they may be able to get you in sooner. I’m currently waiting for Jessi at Wildcat Tattoo to open her books cause her neo-traditional is the shit.
Others have mentioned some great shops like MPLS Tattoo, Leviticus, and Jackalope. The Holy Mackerel used to have some incredible artists but they’ve been sliding, bad. So I wouldn’t go there.
So, I think really the only way you’ll get the best answers is if you share what you’re kinda looking for, otherwise, those of us who love our shops will just say go to them without knowing if they’d really be a good fit.

MPLS Tattoo is women owned and highlights inclusivity. Their resident artists are all incredible too. Look up the artist instagrams to see if there is a style you vibe with.
