If this was my horse, I would get a bucket of warm water with some Epsom Salt in it soak it with a rag twice a day, dry it with a soft towel and put some Bag Balm on it. Epsom Salt is good at healing sore muscles and will take care of any infection that is in the skin, a old time remedy that really works great,,, give it a try and good luck:)

I, like everyone will be interested in what the vet says. The Epsom Salt & Bag Balm is a great treatment but this looks like it might need to be approached differently. It won't hurt your horse though. Best of luck & keep us posted.

What about a tea tree oil wash? 'Healing Tree brand, Tea-Clenz for Equines. Topical concentrate, used for Ringworm, Rain Scald, Rain Rot and Sweet Itch. Veterinary formula, it's an Equine Anti-Microbial Concentrate'. www.healing-tree.com. I used it as a wash on a fungus on my horse's saddle sore and cinch area. Worked great!

Such a beautiful boy! Family pet clinic in Newberg ( http://www.familypetclinicofnewberg.com/ ) has a fund to cover things like this, you might want to call and see if they can help. Great people there. If that doesn't work out, call the emergency vet in Tualatin http://evcot.com/, they are really good people too and can help you find medical care for him. If those two fail to get you some info for help, the Cat adoption team in Sherwood will have more information or contacts to help, just make sure all of these know when you call that you are trying to help him as an injured stray and you are trying to find his home.
This is alittle weird... i am looking for a guinea pig expert. i need someone who can help me alittle with one of my piggys. He is sick an the vet said they dont know...

Dr. Richard Hillmer can help you with your guinea pig. He is the only vet I took my little gal to and he was wonderful with her. There are lab tests that can be done to check internal organ function. They will also see to it that you get care sheets for nutrient deficiencies a lot of piggies get. Also, guinea pigs need to have a companion. They can actually get sick and die from depression/ loneliness. I would not recommend only having one, unless you are it's companion at all times. Be sure that he has access to orange juice as well as water, and kale every day. Guinea pigs are "pigs" when it comes to vit C. They NEED it to be healthy. I used to feed my critters lots of Kale, and tang as well as fresh water and their pellets, timothy hay, and other fruits and veggies. REALLY make sure you are keeping an adequate amount of foods high in Vit. C readily available at all times! I would clean the bedding every day. And a bath should not be needed, when their environment is kept at an optimal level of cleanliness. I used to give mine baths once a month for a fun bonding time. I would also consider adding a probiotic to his diet. If his gut is out of whack, he is going to be more susceptible to other illnesses. Getting his gut flora back in order will likely help him heal on his own over time.

We no longer have guinea pigs, but had plenty when our kids were young. We learned they don't synthesize vitamin c which leads to scurvy. Their jaws tighten up and they don't eat much and get into a downward spiral. Our solution was to get a mix at Critter Cabana called Critical Care. Get ready cause it's spendy. It's made to feed small animals in post-op recovery. We'd mix half a teaspoon of that with a little water daily. Our pigs would lick it up right off a small plate. Provided mega doses of vitamin C and other nutrients. Our last pig, Silver, lived over 6 years.

Anyone know of any places or anyone that would shave a cat? Trying to avoid the vet bill which is around 150.00. Wilco in Mac does not, neither does Shaggy Showers.
