Brian - what drives me crazy is that some borough's charge me $200 to do a U&O inspection, and the guy comes out to do the inspection and spends a total of 10 minutes doing the actual inspection. As I understand it, by PA State Constitution, only actual directly attributable costs of dong the inspections are allowed to be charged. Otherwise, it is an illegal "Hidden tax". I don't know what you make, but I will guarantee that the guys who come and inspect my properties make nowhere near $200 per hour. Therefore, my question is why do I have to pay these ridiculous fees? If I fight them, I put a target on my back for the next inspection. To me, it is government over-reach and extortion. Again I will ask, in your borough, what is the cost of the permit to replace one sidewalk block?
Jeff M. replied:
Why do you need a permit to replace something that is already there??? It is not structural. In any case, try Mike Knoll at (484) 645-5694 and please tell him I gave you his name.
