I am the local Service Dog Advocate for Medicine Hat. And there are no certified Service Dog trainers specifically in Medicine Hat. I have been keeping Della or Della's K9 Connection up to date on the changes to the Alberta Service Dog Act changes to make it so Owner Trainers can get take an test to get the Alberta Service Dog Act ID card(test is not yet currently available as that are still working on the list of approved places to take the test and such). There are 3 ways to acquire a Service Dog legally allowed in Alberta. One is to get it from a facility that specializes in Service Dogs. Sadly though many have closed their doors to applications because their wait lists are over 5yrs long or more. To hire a trainer to train a puppy you acquire for you. Or to Owner Train. I shared with Della the skills they listed for the test that the dogs must be able to do. I thought it might be a great idea for her to offer either prep classes for the test or consider branching out to include Service Dog or access training options. I don't know if she has though, I was focused on Daya's breeding so have not connected to her about it since I sent her the links. She is the only one local I have specifically spoken too about it. But as a first start I would recommend joining the group I am linking here. Each province is different in their Service Dog laws and regulations. There are no federal Service Dog laws to over see the provinces. Each province has their own. So it is very important to learn the laws of your province first. The people in that group are wonderful and very helpful. Several are also Service Dog Advocates. They can explain more in depth the two legislation that protect people with disabilities and their Service Dogs. Which are the Alberta Service Dog Act and the Human Rights Act. Hope that helps give you some starting points. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1640103779541089/
