Cheap but good dentists in Melbourne? My guy is in serious need of dental work but doesn't have private health insurance so we're looking for a dentist who is nice (he...

I was in a pretty similar situation as your guy early last year, needed a root canal really badly, but thankfully I was insured. I went to [My Dental clinic](http://www.mydentalclinic.com.au/), and was looked after by Henry. He was a fantastic guy. Friendly, relaxed, and more then happy to teach you while he works; what he's doing, what he's looking for. He offers a constant stream of information, and it's a great distraction from what's actually going on inside your mouth. I can't speak too much to their prices, considering I've only had the one procedure done with them. Root canals are crazy expensive, and it ended up just under $1,200 (excluding the insurance). That covered about 6 sessions, the crown itself, and a check-up 6 months later. It's entirely possible you could find someone cheaper out there, but I do recommend seeing if this place fits your bill.

Cheap, good, dentist in Melbourne. Pick two. Oh, and you can't have "cheap".

If he has issues with anxiety whilst in the chair, find somewhere that offers Penthrox, in inhaler calmative. There are also dentists that offer sleep dentistry (not anaesthesia, they use a pill) and have payment plans or finance available from GE. At least then you'll get a high standard of care and be able to pay it off gradually.

There have been a couple of dentist threads recently. See [Here](http://www.reddit.com/r/melbourne/comments/161 tni/anyone_know_a_dentist_who_will_be_nice_to_me_im/) and [Here](http://www.reddit.com/r/melbourne/comments/12 nalt/can_anyone_recommend_a_good_dentist_in_or_around/). Perhaps we can get some feedback from the people who tried the suggested dentists.

I'd also be interested to hear from anyone in that "smile" dental program, I had someone recommend that to me a while back. They say they make their money from the plan fees, which start quite low, yet they also say that you save more than the plan fees when you visit the dentist, so I don't see how they possibly make any money. Seems a bit suspect to me.

I got some work done at smile in the city and it wasn't cheap. The service was good though.

If he's in pain/discomfort he can have emergency dental work done at the Royal Dental Hospital, don't know how expensive it can be though.. pension/health care card holders have it pretty cheap but I assume he's not on one? Maybe worth a look anyway http://www.dhsv.org.au/emergency/

For the price you spend on a dentist here I can take a flight to Singapore and get top grade service for about the same price.
Dear Melbourneres,
does anyone have a good dentist that they would recommend?
I want a good dental relationship with someone who does not over charge or over...

I have the BEST dentist, she was recommended to me and haven't looked back! The only issue is she's in Burwood but she's worth the trip I reckon. Her name is Maryanne and she's at the Burwood Dental Clinic98080377
