Motorsports International on rt. 20 in Auburn carries a wide range of bikes and has always treated me well for service/parts though I've never bought a bike from there. Salespeople were always helpful but never pushy.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have thought about used but as u/hywelbane notes it’s a bit hard to judge bikes when one has no experience and can’t even test ride. My commute is about 6 miles no freeway to work but may need to take the 290 for just one exit on the way back just to avoid an ugly strret. Looked at the inventory at some of stores suggested for used but seems like ABS has hard to come by in used and if any are available they are around 3 k at which point new becomes almost viable.

I'd buy used and learn basic maintenance yourself. My experience with bike shops is they areall awful.

It's not so close to you, but so far my best customer experience shopping for a bike has been at [Bettencourt's ](https://bettencourts.com/) in West Bridgewater. I couldn't believe the freedom they gave me to test ride (even let me ride with a passenger) and they were super low pressure and didn't play salesman games. When I was calling around to other dealerships, some didn't even allow test rides at all. They're a Suzuki and Honda dealership, but they have a decent selection of used bikes too.

I did the course at MOM in Foxboro, looked like they had a solid selection of bikes. I ended up buying off craigslist though cuz I didn't want anything new to start.

I bought my first bike at [National Powersports Distributors](http://www.nationalpowersports.net/indexNational.cshtml) in NH. Only 90 miles from you or so. Good selection of used bikes, good prices and no nonsense. I was quite happy with them.

https://www.wagnermotorsport.com/ I went there to test ride an s1000 r, since they had a demo unit. Was a nice dealership experience, and decent choice. Not sure about their used inventory but you should check it out.

I haven't bought from, but have visited and test-ridden at Wagner's Motosport which is in Worcester. The sales guy I talked to there seemed nice enough and not high pressure at all. They're a KTM dealer and it looks like they have 390 Dukes in stock.
Buying used can be a bit intimidating if it's your first time and you don't know much about bikes. If you have any friends who ride or are mechanically inclined though it can be a great option.
Also, I'd recommend either calling your insurance company (assuming you have a car), or getting quotes at a couple of online places (Geico, Progressive) for the three bikes you are interested in. I can't imagine insurance is going to be terribly high for any of the bikes you are interested in, but then you'd know for sure.

Don't have a go to shop in your area. I liked naults in windham personally when I got my ninja 650 to learn on. What kind of commute do you have? The 2 cylinder ninjas are deceptively comfortable good commuters. I find it great for highway riding. The ninja 400 could serve you very well and insurance won't be that bad on it.
Is there a shop in town that does work on dirt bikes? Looking to get tunes up done on the boys bikes. TIA
