Again in Matehuala. It is called Hotel Real Villas. It is a “no tell Hotel”at the north end of town on the main drag. Approaching from the north, do not take the bypass, but drive straight through. The hotel is a mile or so south on the right hand side. We have stayed there with our dogs e Rey year for the past 12 Years.Very clean, very secure. About 500 pesos a night. 400 plus50 pesos per dog.

When we pass through Villahermosa we stay at this Airbnb. You can pull your vehicle inside the gate and let dogs and kids run in the grassy yard. There is a gap under the gate, if they want to escape they might, but mine prefer to stay with us so it works well. The room itself is basic, nothing fancy, but good place to let dogs and kids burn energy after a long day in the car. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19985101

Booking.com charges their partners 18% for reservations - so if you can, call properties directly so they can avoid having to pay that huge fee.

Hotel del Rio Andrea! It is a Best Western. They have 24 hr security, restaurant (complimentary breakfast buffet), and pets are no problem.(stayed with the 6 pups, 2 cats and the horse). Here are recommendations for two great restaurants in Guanajuato and an English speaking guide. Plus walking tour of SMA, restaurants and places to visit, all on my wife's web site. Your bus will get you to Leon and from there a bus or contact Israel to take you to GTO. He is the best guide as I noted for GTO City. http://www.soniadiaz.mx/san-miguel-de-allende.html
Don P. replied:
***** Sorry I read this as going from GTO to SMdA **** Sit near the front, it's a rocky ride. 1:15 to arrive. From San Miguel de Allende,if you take the city bus into town (not a bad walk) take the one marked "Centro" on the windshield. Primera Plus has the standard 4 seats across and ETN has the first-class-like 3 across for a few dollars more.
Don P. replied:
In Guad, I love the old market, the 9 corners Birrea restaurants, and just all the "location specific neighborhoods" which include printing areas, hardware areas, and much like old NYC in the location specialties. Also Tacos Fish Lapaz, the downtown of Guad, Tonala with every piece of roadside stuff that sits at every shop you see in the US (the fun part is to see the stuff that never gets shipped to USA). Take the subway and city busses are great. In GTO to the Pipala statue and take photos, not crazy about mummies, see TripAdvisor in goth GTO and San Miguel for restaurants is spot on with my opinion normally. Drop by SMdA Sano market if you are hungry for cheese or specialty items you can't find everywhere. Bonanza market for odd stuff like corn meal, rye flower, pickle relish, horseradish and things you may find nowhere else in Mexico, 10 miles out of SMdA for hot thermal springs toward Delores Hidalgo, the GTO symphony, the SMdA library concerts and theater performances, and otherwise just walk through town, take a lot of photos and stop where your fancy demands.
Don P. replied:
in all these cities take the tramvilla (double decker bus) first to see the points of interest and on notepad ask donde esta to guide when your guests express interest to return via cab, combi or citybus with the exception of Patzcuaro which may not have a tour bus. For extra spice, while there take a launcha boat out to the ice cream cone shaped island and later for more, hop a local bus around the lake to see the various cities and take a cab back if you get stuck and desire a rapid return. For extra spice if early March, head from Morelia to Anguejo to see Monarch reserve. Or for extra spice from there on to Los Asufres near Hidalgo to soak in hot springs.
Does anyone have the name of a decent, close hotel in Laredo, Tx. if planning to cross at the Columbia Bridge. Thanks!
Joanne L. replied:
Residence Inn Marriot at 310 Lost Oaks Boulevard just off the highway and only 5 mins from the border
Geoff T. replied:
The Best Western is a totally renovated property. We were happy with everything including the rate. If you are staying in Laredo coming from Mexico, I suggest you just use #2 and try to cross at whatever the best time is. Using the Columbia bridge adds about an hour, depending on the truck traffic. You intersect at exit 24 or 25 and head south to Laredo.
