Milan coffee shop recommendations To beat the January blues I just booked a cheap af 4 night trip to Milan at the end of the month. I've already scoped out places to hit...

I was just in Milan in October and made a point to do a little cafe crawl on my last day. Milan isn't quite the frontrunner for Italian specialty coffee, but it does have some decent offerings. You can still stop in just about any bar and get a typical Italian shot for cheap, but there's a growing interest in more modern specialty coffee throughout Italy. Orsonero is a lovely little space, serving Gardelli coffees and some rotating guest European roasters. Taglio is decent as well, though I've heard they're more known for their food than their coffee. Cofficina (Ticinese 58) was a very inviting spot. They roast their own, but not at this location. Hygge was also a very inviting and cozy place, with a solid coffee menu and even better food and wine. Two others that were recommended to me that I wasn't able to check out are Pave and Moleskine Cafe. I've heard both are not quite "third wave" but still good quality.

Haven't been since last summer, but the only specialty coffee place I know of is [Taglio](http://www.taglio.me/) and it's pretty great!

Botega cafe cacao was really good (both the coffee and non-coffee drinks) Crazy cat cafe is also very popular but no idea on the quality

I'm nearly always disappointed when I go to Italy. I love Italy a great deal, and their coffee technique is on average damn good, but coffee culture is so ingrained in Italian society I think it's hard for 3 rd wave shops to take root. I went to two in Bologna and both served Yirgacheffe (for example) beside a robusta blend. The hardcore Italian coffee drinkers missed the caffeine kick of the robusta and preferred it.

Milan has been our hub in Europe for a few years now! Pave is walking distance from Milano Centrale and we usually burn a few hours there before a departing train.

The great historic boutique Hodeidah! A must visit location: Via Piero della Francesca 8. You can go there by the public transportation. They have great coffee beans they roast themselves including some very high quality single origins. Enjoy
