Suggestions for graphic novels for an 8 year old who loves Minecraft, Adventure Time, and Doctor Who? It would be good to expose him to a new series but it's hard to...
Karen B. replied:
Matt Bayne, please comment here if you can. Graphic novels for 8 year old who loves Minecraft, Adventure Time and Doctor Who....I am thinking you can never go wrong with Bone. http://smile.amazon.com/Bone.../dp/188896314X/ref=sr_1_1...
Deena B. replied:
He sounds like he and my 9 yr old son, Owen, would get along very well indeed!Bone was already suggested and it's one Owen loves as well. Neil Gaiman has a fair number of kid-friendly books and graphic novels. There is a graphic novel version of Stardust; and it was geared towards the young adult market.
Karen B. replied:
Lunch Ladies - on the lighter side compared to say, Dr. Who, but lovely, fun and engaging. Written by a truly wonderful human being: http://www.ted.com/.../jarrett_j_krosoczka_how_a_boy...
Karen B. replied:
Also: Astronaut Academy is very fun. And Raina Telgemeier's Comics are all good - some even girl centric, which makes them a terrific read for feminist boys.
Kirsten L. replied:
My kids loved The Odyssey and Beowulf as graphic novels by Gareth Hinds…and this just in: Will (14) said he would recommend to "an advanced 9 year old" (whatever that means) the Boxers and Saints set and The Encyclopedia of Early Earth. He read this at like 10/11. Grace (12) says Cardboard and Over the Wall are good too. Sorry I don't know the authors. And yes, they both loved Bone!
Matt B. replied:
Definitely: Bone, by Jeff Smith. The Adventures of Superhero Girl by Faith Erin Hicks, which won an Eisner for best publication for kids 8-12. Astronaut Academy: Zero Gravity and Astronaut Academy: Re-Entry by Dave Roman. Raina Telgemeier has 3 graphic novels: Smile; Drama; and Sisters; all three have had extended stays on the NYT bestseller list and currently are all on there at the same time.
Matt B. replied:
Also: Battling Boy by Paul Pope (if Dr. Who is ok for the 8 yr old, this will be okay).
Matt B. replied:
Seconding the Amulet series by Kazu Kibuishi. That's another series where if Dr. Who is okay, Amulet should probably be okay.
Meredith L. replied:
Bone, Dragonbreath, Franny K Stein
Erin G. replied:
For later: Gregor the Underlander by Suzanne Collins. Mark and Dylan liked it better than Hunger Games. Also Artemis Fowl. Both are series.
Joanna C. replied:
Our kids loved this one by Neil Gaiman http://www.amazon.com/.../ref=redir.../179-5269181-7380234
Wendy S. replied:
One of my kids' faves... non-fiction and super informative but hilarious... http://www.amazon.com/Wher.../dp/0147510708/ref=sr_1_cc_1...

Also, this guy has some pretty sweet takes on Hindu mythology: http://www.amazon.com/Ramayana-Divine.../dp/081187107X
Paul L. replied:
"Battlefield Earth",... the book is long (1K+) and real SF page-burner, buy the hard cover edition, it's worth sharing and treasuring for a life time, excellent read Amy!
Jennifer B. replied:

And she is so supportive and helpful when your trying to make hard but positive life changes!
