Can't go wrong with Giro Helmets from Venture North. Also, NMBAC will be giving away free bell helmets and bike lights this Friday at our Greenway Pizza Party event in Harrison Neighborhood. Details below. Join Harrison Neighborhood Association, Redeemer Center for Life, the Northside Greenway Council, and the North Minneapolis Bicycle Advocacy Council for a Monthly Friday Fire, and discussion around the Northside Greenway on Friday, July 10, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Redeemer Urban Farm located (behind Venture North Bike Shop) at 336 Morgan Avenue N, Minneapolis. There will be a brief presentation on the Northside Greenway and possible routes south of Plymouth Ave. The discussion will focus around community concerns, and the Greenway's potential to spur development and address health disparities. Additionally, participants will learn how to use Harrison Community Bread Oven, develop skills in food preparation and baking, with pizza toppings from Harrison's own community garden! as for type, I really like my Bell Stoker. It wraps around the back of the head, I feel it would give more protection, and that's why I'm wearing a helmet in the first place: http://www.bellhelmets.com/cycling/helmets/stoker-2015

Is there a company out there that makes a 160mm arm length track (144 bcd) crankset? Looking to help out someone (who is quite short) find an appropriate crankset.

All of Grease Rag's open shop nights are in Minneapolis, but if you're in St. Paul Cycles for Change is a community bike shop that also does women and trans shop nights every Tuesday: http://www.cyclesforchange.org/women-and-transgender-night If you're close to Omnium, C4C is probably much closer to home. On the other hand, maybe you will be able to resist the odd notion locals have that the other side of the river might as well be out in the boonies (I've been here two years and am now a hopeless case).
UPDATE: wow, thank you everyone for so much info. This will help alot in her search for the perfect bike.

Pivot makes a Mach 4 alloy in a 26. They make an awesome bike (I have the Mach 4 27.5, have had the 29 er also) built for the mountains (originated in AZ). Their earlier alloy complete bikes were heavier than other makes, but their suspension was to die for and the bike responsive and quick. PM me if interested in a contact and you don't find anything local: Harlan's Bike and Tour in Sioux Falls SD (he was briefly in Fountain Hills AZ).

I'm a big fan of my Icebreaker undies, merino wool amazement http://www.icebreaker.com/en/icebreaker-ethics/what-is-our-supply-chain.html
This is the company I work for. We're based in Golden Valley, MN and all of our clothes are either made in the USA (screen printed by us here in MN!) or ethically made abroad. Most of our clothes are also eco-friendly. We don't specifically do underwear, but our organic cotton volley shorts are super comfy. https://www.soul-flower.com/

I like my icebreaker ones a lot but they get stretched out and don't retain their form. SO, I also really REALLY like my ExOfficio ones. They are amazing for movement, exercise, sweat-wicking, etc. AND they have strict business partner policies against unfair/hazardous/child labor: http://www.exofficio.com/products/womens/underwear?all=1000
