Hello, I'm looking for recommendations for vegan friendly pregnancy resources in the Minneapolis area, including nutritionists, o.b.s, midwives, doulas, birthing...
Holly H. replied:
Well, I am currently certifying to be a doula and I'm vegan:) All I know is what experience I have had personally. The midwife I am seeing now is very supportive, but she is a homebirth midwife, I am not sure what your birth plan is. The birth collective has meetings where you can go to meet possible doulas. As far as websites go, I have found quite a few other vegan families on the mothering.com forums, there is always a wealth of friendly advice to be found there. You can feel free to pm me if you would like any book recommendations or anything else:)

I see a Neurologist at Methodist Hospital and she has been a tremendous help for me -- Would St. Louis Park work for you?
Katie P. replied:
I actually just saw her today -- Her name is Dr. Beattie. She's somewhat difficult to get in to see -- so put your name on the waiting list because cancellations do happen. 952-993-3200 Good luck!!!
Alison P. replied:
If you are interested in a functional medicine physician, Dr. Christopher Foley at the Minnesota Natural Medicine clinic is fabulous. He has a long lead-time for appointments, but he us worth it!
Alison P. replied:
Dr. Foley is covered by some insurances, however he won't submit the claim on your behalf. His staff will help you get the paperwork you need to submit your own claim for reimbursement. Google the clinic name and you can read more about it in their website. Good luck!

To my nutritionist out there, can you recommend a good and safe colon cleanse :). Thank you.
Michelle A. replied:
I am a believer in cleansing and building! You definitely need good flora, probiotics and enzymes! I have done colon cleanses and like Dr. Richard Schulze's Formula 1&2. There is the saying all dis-ease begins in the colon! I do smoothies daily also.
Melissa O. replied:
Liquid Probiotics and thats it, cleanses can deplete your body.

Renae J. replied:
Nutritional Weight and Wellness is VERY well informed on gluten issues.
Katie C. replied:
He should be cold turkey gluten free from the minute of diagnosis. Nutritional Weight and a Wellness does a gluten free class. Not the same as a nutritionist but close. We didn't see the nutritionist and just did tons and tons of research. Make sure you also test you, him, and any other related children. There is a good chance someone else in the family has it too. This is how we found out my husband has Celiac as well.
