Family of 4 heading to Tokyo for 5 days with somewhat reluctant travelers (12 and 15) - suggestions? Also, the New Sanno is unavailable, so any hotel recs appreciated,...

Hardy Barracks is an Army Hotel, check with them. But if not, if you can find any hotel near a train station, that's really all you need. I usually check Expedia and Trip Adviser. Good luck.
Amanda R. replied:
staying at yokota might be cheap, but you'll regret it every day with the commute. stay as close to a train station as possible - as in a 10-15 minute walk, be it located in shibuya, shinjuku or what have you. your feet and children will thank you, especially if they're already reluctant. i stayed at E-Hotel in shinjuku and it was a 15 minute walk to the train station and citibank with a mcdonalds across the street if you were ever in a breakfast rut, tully's & lawson's connected to the bottom of the hotel, and pepperlunch & coco's across another street. as for suggestions, if they're interested in anime/video games, akihabara is tokyo's electric city and there's countless stores to explore. tokyo disney sea is amazing and only $62 for an adult ticket. try checking out japan-guide.com.
Ken M. replied:
+1 to Akihabara and japan-guide.com. Exhibit vigilance in the former's manga stores though, since the hentai gets mixed in with everything else. Unless you have boys. They'd be thrilled.

Try Agoda.com for hotel or Yokota Air Base...only hour away by train and super easy to do. Disney Sea, Joypolis area, Harajuku...really just look up "Things for family/teens to do in Tokyo" and I wouldn't stay at Hardy Barracks:(

@Korey Gessler: You can visit JapaniCan.com to book your tour packages to Kyoto ... Here are some of the places you'd like to visit: - Kinkaku-ji Kyoto (Golden Temple) - Ginkaku-ji - Kiyomizu-dera - Kyoto Tower - Kyoto Station - Downtown Kyoto City Hall, etc ... I also would recommend you to stay at the the Karasuma - Kyoto Hotel ... it's a very nice hotel, very clean and more suitable for Westerners ... Plus, there are many good restaurants there nearby the hotel ... a 24-hour laundry place across the street ... easy access to Kyoto Station and very short distance to walk to downtown Kyoto City Hall as well. As for me, my favorite place there is the Starbucks Coffee located right down in the Hotel lobby :) Also, when booking your tour package, I'd also recommend you to choose the Shinkansen - the high speed train that goes from Tokyo/Shinagawa/Shin-Yokohama Station to Kyoto Station :) http://www.japanican.com

Looking for a good restaurant that allows you to cook your own food nearby. Any suggestions?
Emily N. replied:
Depends on what you like - Vikings as mentioned above is more like golden corral with a grill portion. It's good.. but for dates or whatever, I prefer Aburi An.

Hello has anyone ever been to this restaurant? Grill Ubagami. IF so are they open for lunch? Or only dinner? Thanks!
Beth L. replied:
In Misawa Asks there is a photo album of that grill. I have never been, but you may find more answers there. Here is a link to the album. www.facebook.com/#!/media/set/?set=oa.248787675171803&type=1

Is there a list anywhere of restaurants around Misawa that take credit cards?
Brittany M. replied:
My husband found this site while doing research for a trip we're taking. You can search by different areas, whether or not they take cards, if they have English menus, etc. Not sure how comprehensive it is, but it's been helpful to us. :) - http://www.gnavi.co.jp/en/
What is the best sushi restaurant in Misawa? Looking for something that isn't crazy expensive but is good and allows kids. Thanks!
Jana V. replied:
I still like Kappa Sushi best. Good price, relaxed atmosphere, and you get to choose the exact pieces you want. Kiku Zushi is good too, but with my kids I would totally take them to Kappa.
I was hoping you could all help me. I was told there was a Yakiniku place that you had to reserve on or around white pole road. Supposedly it has unlimited drinks and...
