There is an organisation called giveadogabone.net and that rehomes dogs to elderly but also pay for their vet care & food etc so tge dog & elderly person can both have the companionship. Maybe they could give some tips on how they manage that

It's too bad because as a retiree, I'm home all day. I can devote unlimited time to my "kids." I have had multiple dogs and breeds for many years. I own my home with fenced yard. I have professional equipment and have always groomed my Poodles and Westies myself. I think a lot of retires and seniors are like me. We have everything to give but money. When I was working, I spent $15,000 on cancer treatment for my last Westie. Westie Magaidh has had surgery on both knees. Seniors can help rescue dogs and those dogs can give new life to seniors.
Christine D. replied:
Elizabeth Cotterill not everyone is lucky enough to afford pet ins and most pet ins companies in the US do not cover pre existing conditions for a rescue. especially a dog that is is 12 plus yrs old. ANd I am not talking abt myself I'm speaking up for my Seniors and disabled westie owners who are living off peanuts but want to be able to keep there pets..

Welcome to Monroe! For nails, there are quite a few decent places - depends on what part of town you are moving to. I live closer to Spotswood and gp to Tippy Toes (right on Spotswood Englishtown Rd); have always been happy there. Vision - I go to Dr. Donlan with Monroe Vision, (I believe he has two offices - one on Spotswood Englishtown Rd and one on Applegarth Rd). Hair - I've been going to Dramatically Different in Spotswood for years - get cuts and colors there. If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask.:)

Can someone recommend a good local vet? How is Jamesburg vet hospital?
Sherry D. replied:
Yes but to overpay for a pet because vets take advantage isn't good. I found Jamesburg vet to be fair with dogs but not cats and they also won't see ferrets which I have. Btw what does "sladder" mean? Latter? I must have missed the Helmetta post because I'm lost with that statement.
Sharon F. replied:
We use Jamesburg Vet. Both doctors are exceptionally professional and knowledgeable. We have 4 little dogs and our last dog went there. She was a protective dog and the doctor had no issue with her. The support staff is also great! I think that Ruth wants to keep one of our boys because she loves him so much. Recommend them HIGHLY!
Kim M. replied:
Monroe Animal Hospital, Dr Hornstein is a fantastic vet.
Gail H. replied:
I recommend Jamesburg Animal Hospital they save my older kitty from death's door a bit price but the staff and vet's are wonderful

When I lived in Jamesburg, I used Jamesburg Animal Hospital. They were wonderful
Penny W. replied:
Jamesburg Vet .... actually, their prices are cheaper than other vets in the area...and I've done my homework. My dog had an ear hematoma & his price was 20% cheaper than other area vets.
Amy S. replied:
We take our dog to Jamesburg Vet. They may be expensive, but since I've used no other vet, I cannot compare. All I know is that Dr. Ibrahim appears to really care about my pet. He's given good advice and he was right.

I go to Monroe Animal Hospital on Prospect Plains
Tammie S. replied:
Do not go to the Jamesburg vet. He charges for every little thing. He gave my dog a $25 shot just to express his anal glands without even approving it with me first. I never had a vet give a shot before expressing anal glands. The checkup wound up costing me like $200. On top of that he was scared of my dog. What vet is scared of dogs? He wouldn't even touch him. He made me hold him even though he had a muzzle on and he was calm. Dr. Manuel in Old Bridge is AWESOME. A checkup is like $40 and he won't charge you extra for every little thing. He isn't quick to jump to shots and medication unless absolutely necessary. He's very good with both of my dogs. They love him.
Jodi M. replied:
I love Jamesburg Vet both doctors are great and there are a lot more vets out there that are a lot more expensive. And he also saved my dogs life in an emergency so I would highly recommend him.

Dr's Newman & Bordieri, Dry Cleaners in strip mall on corner of Spotswood Englishtown & Texas Rd, Garveys is best kid friendly in town ( food is ok, but kids love it), Country Animal Clinic for Vet, not really a bar scene in town.. Ryan's Pub, that's about it.

New S. replied:
NJ HRS does not rely solely on a single vet for rabbit care, since its members and supporters are all volunteers from different areas. I use Community Animal Hospital in Morris Plains, NJ. I find their staff to be well educated and professional. Perhaps others can offer you additional recommendations.
Astrid H. replied:
My vet recently moved to Eagle Rock Veterinary Hospital in West Orange. My bunnies have been seeing her for years. Dr. Tracey Cantamessa.
Astrid H. replied:
P.S. New Jersey House Rabbit Society, if you could update your vet list? Dr. Cantamessa is no longer in Rutherford. Not sure who (if anybody) is seeing exotics there now. Dr. Cantamessa is at Eagle Rock Veterinary Hospital in West Orange now.
