I know a young lady that her 1 1/2 year old is needing help locating a pediatrician that accepts Medicaid OTHER THAN GREENVALE or GREENVILLE...which we both despise due...

Dr. Remillard at Helena Family Medicine
Natalie L. replied:
Alabaster Pediatrics669-5547, all female doctors and great care...She can also...contact Medicaid and ask for other providers in her area.
Natalie L. replied:
Sorry wrong number 663-5547...and if they have openings, they can do the PCP change for you and you wont have to contact Medicaid at all..This is what I do for a living and my son is also a patient with Alabaster Peds...

John B. replied:
Never a problem with Greenvale here...Dr. Jolly has been our Ped for both kids since birth. Our kids just love him.
Krista A. replied:
Alabaster Peds are great
Amber T. replied:
This should help. You can search for doctors by county http://medicaid.alabama.gov/CONTENT/4.0_Programs/4.4.0_Medical_Services/4.4.10.3_Provider_List.aspx
Susan B. replied:
Thank you sooooo much Roseanna Regina we will check it out....thanks to all for the help. This is for my grandson and I refuse to let him go back to his old DR. He needs a DR that cares about their patient as if they were their own!!
Amber R. replied:
Alabaster Pediatrics only accepts Medicaid patients who are already their patients. My kids got their medicaid cards and then it followed a few weeks later with info telling me who their patient first doctor was and i could see anyone until a certain date. That gave me time to change it or see whoever in the meantime. If she just got her card she probably isn't limited until she gets the next bit of info. I would try calling the pedi she wants to visit and asking them. I found the pedi offices more able to help than I expected.
Jessica S. replied:
Check Southlake Pediatrics on Valleydale Rd. I'm not sure if they accept Medicaid, but they might and they are fabulous.
Susan B. replied:
Roseanna Regina she didnt even know if he had gotten approve till she got his card in the mail yesterday but it had no info with it
Sonya I. replied:
Dr. Remillard in Helena that's where I take my children
Stephanie H. replied:
Bless her heart. I am not a fan of Greenvale either. We left to go to Vestavia Pediatrics after some serious medical issues cropped up with my two youngest boys. Never give up though.
Roseanna R. replied:
Ok, did a little research - she needs to visit : https://medicaidhcp.alabamaservices.org/Default.aspx?alias=medicaidhcp.alabamaservices.org%2FRecipient&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Linda S. replied:

Jannie P. replied:
I take mine to Dr. Remillard at Helena Family Medicine and they do take medicaid and they do listen to you and they will accept other drs diagnosis.
Amelia S. replied:
Dr. Baxley at Over the Mountain pediatrics may be still accepting new Medicaid patients. We switched to her from Greenvale and we love her! Medicaid does assign you to a doctor and you do not have to use that doctor. Just call the office of your choice and ask if they are accepting new Medicaid patients and if they are, you should be able to make an appointment from there. If I'm not mistaken either your doctor or you would contact medcaid via telephone or make an account online (fastest method) and change the patient 1 st doctor to your doctor of choice. I actually called Over tea Mountain pediatrics an made an appointment first before doing the "official" patient 1 st switch online. I too have a child with a disability and I so very wish we could afford to change insurances, I hate being on Medicaid- The unnecessary red tape is ridiculous!! I think it's a waste of time AND resource to make an unneeded appointment with the pediatrician just to get an updated referral to the specialist!!!
Suggestions for pro breastfeeding pediatrician please :)
Christy H. replied:
Karen Eaton Doles!!!
Karen D. replied:
Thanks, ladies, for the kind referrals! We are very pro- breastfeeding! Dr Hoy and I at Professional Pediatrics are both exclusive breast feeders. I am 10 months in with my twins, and all three of my kids had bilirubin issues. Between Dr Hoy and I, one of us is in the office almost every day! We are also open on Sat and Sun. Feel free to call the office 271-5959 to set up an appt- we wld love to see your new baby!

Dr. Simon!
Abbie P. replied:
Dr. Mukkamala at Partners in Pediatrics. She truly is pro bf. My son was a tiny baby and borderline underweight, at 5 th percentile weight early on. I just felt strongly that bf was best despite naysayers trying to tell me otherwise. She truly supported my decision and assured me that my child was completely healthy---just small and it was likely genetics. She did extra periodic weight checks to check on him and cheered me on. I might would have given up if it weren't for her not ever letting me get discouraged and not letting me believe that he wasn't "getting enough." Eventually it all worked itself out, and I now have a healthy 3 year old boy who is in the 90 th percentile for height, and 30 th for weight, and has only had one ear infection his entire life. I am thankful for her. Highly recommend her and their practice.
Melanie B. replied:
Dr. Simon congratulated me at 9 months for still bf pretty exclusively. My guy didn't tolerate food until almost 9 months.

Lindsey Dawson, nurse, nurse, nurse and it will come down. Also, keep in contact with a lactation consultant. Are you on the Nursing Mamas Montgomery FB page? Lots if advice and support there. Our ped threatened the formula need because of slightly elevated bili too. Was totally unnecessary for us. Also, this is a helpful link. Good luck! http://kellymom.com/?s=Jaundice
Karen L. replied:
We see Dr. White at Professional Pediatrics. He's been nothing but positive and encouraging for breastfeeding. He actually has encouraged me to delay solids til after six months which is rare these days.
Ashley M. replied:
Dr Simon all the way! He congratulated me when we went in for our 12 month appointment and told us we were in the 5% of moms who are still BFing at one year. He has 4 or 5 kids that were all breast fed. (I can't remember how many) and is very supportive of mom's intuition and however you prefer to vaccinate. He is supportive of full vaccination, delayed vaccination or no vac. He's also supportive of trying homeopathic remedies and isn't quick to judge. He listens very intently and relates your situation to one his kids had. I never feel rushed out of the room which is unusual these days. He's an excellent ped. The only thing about him is he is uber religious, if that matters to you. We're not and I am able to deal with it for the care we get with him.
Sara W. replied:
Yes, Dr Simon with pediatric healthcare is wonderful!

I love the midwives at OB/GYN Associates but Vickie, it is a huge practice. I like Partners in Pediatrics for kids but they also are big. Not sure about Tricare and Dr. Simon, but he is great and open minded to non-"typical" ways of doing things.

Dr. Maria Delgado-Cocjin is the best. My daughter has been seeing her since birth. As a part of a company merger she is now a part of Dryer Medical which I wasn't thrilled about. But so far no hiccups. She has an Office in Batavia right off of Fabyan. And an office in Saint Charles on RT.64. We usually go to the Batavia office. http://doctors.advocatehealth.com/a/maria-holgado-cocjin-saint-charles-pediatrics

Laura M. replied:
I was told Dr. Powell is the best (but I called and he is not taking new patients) The other is Dr. Thotakuta and they said they always take new patients and support parents choice.
Joanna B. replied:
Hey! I just called Dr Thotakura's office and they just told me that they just changed their policy and will not be accepting non vax *or* delayed vax children. Ridiculous.
KrisandMelissa M. replied:
Dr Thotakura will see nonvaxing patients. He just hired a new NP so wait times are getting better. A lot of family practice physicians will also see nonvaxing patients. Elisabeth...there are more and more physicians realizing that vaccines in some peop le can do more harm than good. And even if they don't agree they believe it is a parents decision not to put toxins, heavy metals, aborted fetal cells, and animal DNA into their child.
Kattey C. replied:
Dr. Powell is awesome, and so is Dr. Thotakura. I know Dr. Powell was taking medicaid, I'm not sure about dr Thotakura.
