I need suggestions for a daycare for my 2yr old. Do any places have immediate openings in that group? We have been on the WVU Learning Center wait list for over a year...

I raised my daughter through Presbyterian Child Development Center (PCDC) downtown Morgantown. They had her off the bottle and pacifier and out of diapers in a snap, started to teach her to read and tell time at age 3 or 4, and many other things that I could go on and on about. They "graduate" each year to an older classroom and actually have a graduation at the end of each year where they wear cap and gown, put on a show, etc. They go on a lot of field trips to really fantastic places also. It isn't like a lot of daycares where kids just sit in an age appropriate room and play all day. It is structured as fun but educational classrooms. It isn't until they are in around 8 or 9 that I became a little disappointed because they would come in after school and pretty much all go into a room to do homework. But hindsight, I'm glad because it made us have more time after work to be together and not have to deal with so much homework. Now mind you, things could have changed since then as my daughter is now 16 and in high school, but I doubt it. She is above and beyond a successful student, works, and a great girl that parents would die to have as their own, and I contribute a significant amount of that to her going to PCDC from age 1 to 10. Another problem you have in daycares is lice, fifths disease, scabies, etc. They stay on top of that kind of thing so that it doesn't end up spreading like wildfire amongst the kids. My daughter never came home with any of those problems from PCDC. They have had and keep the same staff for years and years, not a big turnover in staff like a lot of places. Some of the staff have been there long enough to help raise 2 generations of kids, and still counting. They even have a BOE pre-k or kindergarten (cant remember which) there. One of their teachers left there and is now a CPS worker. Good luck in your search. It's never easy to leave your child(ren) with anyone, especially with all the crazy things that go on behind closed doors these days.

I've worked at a few of the daycares in Morgantown and left most of them due to the conditions they were in and how they treated children. Pleasant Day Schools in the best in my opinion… it's very organized and very clean! I also really like Kinder Haus. STAY AWAY from anything small… trust me! There are two daycares in our town I worked for that were FILTHY.. fed children expired food, yelled at them for completely ridiculous things (1 & 2 year olds!) never changed diapers regularly … I don't feel like I should mention the names here, but you can message me if you'd like to know to STEER CLEAR!

There are not enough infant slots in Morgantown to meet the demand. I hope you can find something. Since WVU daycare has 32 slots, I recommend you try them first. Here's the link. http://childlearningcenter.wvu.edu/
