I did the one you're talking about at Big Bear this year on a mixed team. I had good and bad thoughts about it. It's not like a WVMTR event. I felt it was highly regulated to the point I felt overwhelmed with all of RAGNAR's rules and requirements prior to the event. They regulate you to the point of measuring camp site spots, trying to make an 8 person team travel in only 2 vehicles (we ignored that), timing how long you have your vehicle in the camping area, mandatory video watching, mandatory volunteer work to help RAGNAR do it's job, etc. With all that said, it was fun was we all got there and got set up. It was well run and organized once the race started. They use some really neat technology. It's BIG for a trail running event in WV. BTW, it's actually three separate courses. The trails at Big Bear are great trails if you like somewhat rough trails.
