Does anyone know how much it costs to replace a muffler? The mechanic is saying 450, but I think that's a bit much.

Of course it is too much! If you have a fitted muffler that does not require welding,it will be much cheaper. You can buy one yourself on autoparts.com, or partsgeek.com. I once replaced a SPORT muffler myself on my scion, and the part cost me over $200

Discount Tire and Auto by the starbucks in Madison is good. John is the guy... he replaced my headlight and is super helpful and communicative in terms of what is wrong, what they need to do, and the costs, and they all do a good job. I had several different issues last year and each time they went above and beyond in terms of fixing things.
