Ok, friends....those who have some Charleston/Mt. Pleasant connections. What all is there to do? Where do I go? And...can anyone give me a photographer recommendation...
Ashley S. replied:
I can agree with about everything that people have commented already. If you have time then I would visit a Plantation home. Either Boone or Middleton place. If not there is plenty to do in the city without even having to get in the car & drive. A carriage tour is a must. I recommend a private (2-4) person but ask for a tour guide that will still give you info because some think you want to be left alone if you rent a private. Bull Dog Tours offers walking tours during the day or night that are great too. Some are jailhouse, ghost, dark side, ect. Even if you don't believe in all the ghostly stuff it's great info & history of the city. The food in Charleston is Amazing!!! I'm not a seafood fan but if you want seafood go to Fleet Landing. It's on the water right beside Waterfront Park (another must). The dolphins love to put on a show for the people. You can see them from the restaurant's porch or the park just be patient. Anther good seafood place is Hymans BUT get there early or expect to wait. If you want a good steak I recommend Burwells. You can get a good steak at a lot of places but Burwells is great & not as expensive. Tommy Condons is an Irish pub that has great food & steak for reasonable prices. Poogans Porch is great for brunch & Boccis has great Italian. There's a very small place called Dixie Supply that is open for Breakfast & Lunch. It is my absolute favorite for breakfast. I highly recommend it, but if you go get a menu. They have a few items listed on their board but those are just specials. They have a menu too. I was confused the first time. Of course the city is full of history so you can just walk around for days. Rainbow row, the old city market, civil war museum, Fort Sumter, Battery Park & Waterfront Park. You can also tour some homes & churches. Enjoy your trip.

I grew up in this area Jessica Mills Winstead and it is considered my second home. You have great suggestions here but you won't be able to do it all. Yes, the plantations are amazing-you just missed the azaleas. I had my wedding portrait done at Middleton. It is probably the most popular to go to. You will only get to do one but you will be back. The CS Hunley is a historic Civil War era submarine that was sank in 1863 and found & recovered in 2000. You need to go online for tickets but it is an amazing tour. You could do Middleton & the Hunley on the same day because they are considered west of the Ashley River. Go to the rooftop bar at the Marketplace Pavilion before sunset for an amazing view. The USS Yorktown usually has a special Memorial Day service. Harbor tours are nice but I prefer the sailboat tour. A carriage ride gives you an historic reference. The ghost tours aren't that authentic to me. You can read it in a book and be just as informed. Go to the Isle of Palms and eat at the Boathouse restaurant. For exercise you could walk across the bridge. It's 2 1/2 miles each way! Then have tacos & margaritas at the Acme Lowcountry Kitchen on Isle of Palms. Take plenty of pictures. We want to see!
Jennifer L. replied:
Embassy Suites or King Charles Inn are very good. Charleston Place is pricey.
Julie L. replied:
Boone Plantation is a must. There is an old oak tree in the back f the property that is 100 s of years old. Beautiful!!!
Jan D. replied:
The Boone Plantation is in Mt Pleasant. It's the sight of were Forest Gump ran down the road through the trees and lots of other movies filmed there. North and South and Nicolas sparks movie can't think of name.
Kim M. replied:
Boone plantation. Magnolia plantation. There are some beautiful homes you can tour in historic district. Eat at Hymans! Boccis Italian is also good. Enjoy!! Beautiful area.
Karen H. replied:
Def have to do the OPEN Market, tour the beautiful homes on Rainbow Row ( you will love the Rainbow colors) go to the battery and play in the fountain and watch the big ships roll in. Isle of Palms is ok to me, I prefer Folly Beach, nice sand and I always find whole sand dollars on the beach . For food Bubba Gumps is good my favorite is T Bonz and you def must try Kaminsky's for dessert ..right Martha Startup?? Its delicious and the best coffee yummo.
Jan D. replied:
Eat at Poogans Porch! Hymans is also good! Also go check out the lighthouse on Folly Beach. Google the Angel oak tree its beautiful real close to Folly.
Krista S. replied:
Lost Dog on Folly.. The best breakfast in Charleston area. I can email you a list of my contacts there. We went on our honeymoon and that is the only place we vacation. Let me know if I can help.
Donna M. replied:
We love to eat at The Boat House (IOP) & Mustard Seed in Mt. Pleasant.
Kaye F. replied:
Tons for a tourist. Magnolia Plantation is a good place for an afternoon. If you are a history bluff, go see the Hunley and the fort plus old churches.
Lisa C. replied:
Jennifer Ratliff lived there for a few years she might be able to help you out
Krista S. replied:
Tideline tours with captain Anton is the best tour to take. He teaches at the C of C and is more informative than any we have took before. Fishing with Kevin Renno is the best and most affordable. You must pick up the Folly Beach Mystery Series books by Bill Noel. You might even find me in his latest book. Folly Beach Crab Shack is amazing too. The Angel Tree is a blessing to see. I could go on and on. As you can tell I love Charleston and will move there one day. Also Anton's wife is an amazing photographer. Tidelinetours.com. 843-813-5009.
