Plumbing/Electrical Pros for Garage Disposal Issue Who has a good plumber/electrician they can recommend?
I'm having an issue with my sink, the garbage disposal switch...

If a disposal sits unused for a long time, it can seize up. There's a hex screw on the body of it you can turn with an allen wrench to try to break it free. If that doesn't work, it probably needs replacement.

First step is get under the garbage disposal. there is a little button you can push in - its an overload. Try and push it in -- if it moves back in, you should be good to go.

There is sometimes a reset on the disposal itself. It may also be wired into a gfci outlet and it's been tripped. If you unplug the disposal you can reach your hand in and see if it spins, the floor of the disposal will rotate. Wear gloves.....

Be sure to check the switch itself. We had one go bad. It never occurred to me that the switch can fail. Of course check everything else, but check the switch the breaker etc... assuming the disposer is not jammed.

If you replace; I'd avoid the Badger brand. The (Badger) replacement rusted out in less than two years.

This is a plumbing issue. Call a plumber. And perhaps go down to Lowe’s or order off Amazon and purchase a badger garbage disposal. And when you call the plumber just say “hey I need this put in” Save you some cash if you have it on hand.

How old is the disposal? Might just be time for a new one. They’re pretty straight forward for installing yourself but sometimes old ones can be a PITA to get off.
