Melanie Dempsey and anyone else who is looking for a Japanese food shop - there is one located, somewhat incongruously, on the north side of Ul Kravchenko, close to where it meets Leninsky. Nearest metro Pr Vernadskogo.

There are a couple that no one mentioned here. There are a few locations for a good, but somewhat pricey chinese market called Китайский Кварталь, Kitaiskiy Kvartal. One near Сухаревская metro. Actually, it is a restaurant but the store is just right next door. Here is the link- http://www.chinachain.ru/sukharevka/ Also, there is a decent Japanese store near Менделеевская metro. All you do is exit on the side with Eastern Buffet, after the glass doors take a right, and then when you get outside, take another right, walk a block and it will be on the corner. Hope it helps!

I usually get red vine from metro, Italian Barbera (12,5%), DOCG certified (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbera), before Xmas is was 320/380 (there are two types) each if buying 6 bottles .. for the price it think it is excellent value for money

Hi Robert! I came back to Moscow just 2 months ago and spent first 3 weeks on looking for the decent quality food. Unfortunately - there are no many options at all (both online and offline). What I would recommend (sorry, I buy food from those places offline, so cannot say anything about their delivery services): I am really in love with the dairy products from Izbenka, and they have a proper shop as well - Vkusville. They only started delivery service like a week ago and you still have to order on the phone, not online. Still, on the price/quality ratio, I would say they must be one of the best: http://vkusvill.ru/ Then, another new player to the food delivery market - the Danilovsky rynok - a proper market with farmers products. I bought some products from them before and they were not super cheap (well, normal farmer market price, still cheaper than any retail supermarket in Moscow city centre), but the quality is very good: http://danrinok.ru/ There are also those fancy farmer shops like LavkaLavka and Moroshka market http://lavkalavka.com/en and moroshkamarket.ru but they are very expensive. Still, if you fancy trying something exotic like a bear steak - that's your dealers. Of course, major supermarkets do deliveries as well - like Azbuka Vkusa for example. But I've never met a person happy with their prices. I've heard really good things about Metro Cash and Carry, but you need to have a special card to shop there. They do internet shopping now - but on the same condition - you have to have a valid card. If you are a meat eater, I'd suggest that you buy either from the links above, or if you want proper (not Russia produced) steaks, you can get them frozen (still very good) from http://www.meatclub.ru/ or http://www.steikomaniya.ru/
Robert D. replied:
It is only available to us unfortunately. We order all of our products directly from Japan once per week. Azbuka has a good selection of Australian beef and New Zealand lamb. Other than that you won't get great beef despite many dubious claims of being the best boutique Russian firms.
Anna L. replied:
Gareth Fenney check out my comment above. I am struggling to find decent meat in Msc, and so far I am more or less happy with what I get from the listed shops.
